The Brain Enhancement Dancing (B.E.D.) the program is a specialized ballroom dance class created by professional dance instructor Walter “Bear” Hartell, designed to decrease the risk of dementia by up to 76%. As
reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, a 21-year study shows that ballroom dancing provides the highest risk reduction for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease compared to any other activity. For those already experiencing dementia symptoms, researchers have seen improvements in memory, and ballroom dancing has also shown benefits for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
B.E.D. classes focus on rapid decision-making, concentration, memory, multitasking movements, balance strengthening, and enhancing physical stamina, all while enjoying a fun and social activity.

MARCH PARTNER CLASSES:
We believe dance should be all-inclusive—getting everyone on the floor, being comfortable, and having fun are our main goals. Not perfection! Each of these series is a standalone class, no prerequisite or experience needed. Think of these as “recess for adults,” where you’ll gain a unique set of “crossover skills” and a few new tools for the dance floor. We will study several dances for couples that are great for social dancing. We’ll be learning: patterns, partnering, movement skills, lead and follow, musicality, and how to dance at any of the regional venues where local musicians play. Activities taught will help develop ease, comfort, and confidence in social dance situations. It’s not necessary to wait for your favorite dance style—join all of the classes to build versatility and flexibility within your dancing. Students are advised to wear comfortable clothing (dress in layers) and bring a water bottle. Please also bring comfortable shoes with a smooth bottom that stay nicely on your feet (no flip-flops or work boots, please).
