BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Career Academies, a partnership between the Boy Scouts of America and Bemidji High School, recently announced its exploring dates for December. Working with 20-plus local businesses, the Exploring Program is run by BSA for students ages 14-20 to gain exposure to various career options through interactive, work-site-based learning. Any student who attends BHS is able to participate by reaching out to the Career Academy Office at the high school. For students in the area who do not attend BHS but are interested in the program, contact Michelle.Bedford@Scouting.org. Salvation Army seeks volunteer bell ringers BEMIDJI — The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help with bell ringing and support this holiday season. “For many people, the words ‘Salvation Army’ means jingling bells and kettles,” a release said. “In communities around the country, our Christmas Kettles are familiar

presentation, the BeltraLibrary to host ‘Reclaiming Mni Sota’ mi County Historical

BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Public Library, in collaboration with the Beltrami County Historical Society, will host Colin Mustful’s presentation, “Reclaiming Mni Sota: Changing the Past, Reconnecting with the Present,” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the library, 509 America Ave. “In this presentation, Mustful will talk about the value of turning history around while explaining how doing so helps readers see the direct connection between the past and the present,” a release said. “Mustful will talk about his journey to discovering the power of storytelling, the importance of diverse narratives, and the literary diversity initiative he’s launched in order to confront those Beltrami County Historical Society photo issues.” Following the Derailment of a Northern Pacific train north of Hines in 1957.

Society will host a reception and question and answer session with Mustful at 3 p.m. at the history center, 130 Minnesota Ave. SW. Mustful is an independent historian, author and publisher whose novels focus on periods of settler colonialism and Native displacement in the U.S., with an emphasis on historical events in Minnesota, the release said. His latest novel, “Reclaiming Mni Sota,” poses an alternate view to history and asks, “What if Minnesota were Mni Sota Makoce, a Native held and governed land?” the release said. Mustful holds a Master of Arts degree in history and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. He is the founder and editor of History Through Fiction, an

HACKENSACK — Faith in Action is hosting a “Community Angel” donation drive this holiday season. Donations made to Faith in Action before the holidays are over will qualify for an ornament on the Angel Tree in the organization’s Hackensack office. Donors will have the option to dedicate these ornaments in honor or memory of a loved one, and their dedications will be written on the ornaments. “By making a donation to Faith in Action in support of volunteer services, you can be an angel to many others in your community,” a release said. Faith in Action serves the community by providing friendly visits, telephone reassurance, caregiver respite, meal delivery, homemaking, chores, minor home repair, ramp building, and transportation to medical appointments, grocery store, food shelf or other errands, the release said. Volunteers choose when and how they want to volunteer and receive liability insurance, mileage reimbursement and service coordination. Currently, 93 volunteers have served 308 people throughout Cass County, primarily older adults and families in need. If

BEMIDJI — The city of Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Heartsaver First Aid CPR and AED course from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, at the BSU Gillett Wellness Center. The class is geared toward anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory, or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting, a release said.
