BEMIDJI — Bemidji Area Aglow is set to meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Beltrami Electric, 4111 Technology Drive NW. “Come and join us as we welcome in the New Year with praise and prayer,” a release said. James Dickey is the Senior Counsel for the Upper Midwest Law Center, a public interest law firm based in the Twin Cities. Mr. Dickey will offer remarks on UMLC’s current cases, potential new cases, and will highlight major constitutional problems created by the Legislature in its 2023 session, including a brief review of laws already struck down by courts. BEMIDJI — Headwaters Music and Arts will host a finger-pick guitar class from 5 to 5:45 p.m. or 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 17 through Feb. 14, at Headwaters, 519 Minnesota Ave. NW. The five-week course will be led by singer, guitarist and educator Antonio Arce and will explore finger-picking techniques and the history of different songs and their authors, a release said. Song choices will include “Falling in Love With You,” “Play Me,” “Time In a Bottle” and more. The course is for intermediate to advanced guitarists ages 15 and older. Reading music is not a requirement for the class. Arce was born in Salta, Argentina as the eldest son of a professional musician. “Although Arce picked up the guitar very quickly he did not learn the names of the chords or the notes in either Spanish or English,” the release said. “Instead, Antonio learned to play by ear.” Space is limited to four participants per session. BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Senior Center is offering trips to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on Jan. 31 and Mackinac Island from June 22-26. The center will host an informational meeting on the trip to Mackinac Island at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18. Tour Director Sharie Linke will give a presentation outlining all the aspects and costs of the summer trip. The tour will not only include two nights on the island at a historic Victorian hotel on Mackinac’s Main Street, but will also feature the beautiful sights along the way, including a narrated tour of the Apostle Islands, a release said. Here’s a look at movies coming to big and small screens soon enough. • “The Beekeeper” (January 12): A man is on a brutal campaign for vengeance. The stakes are elevated when it is revealed he is a former operative of a clandestine group known as “Beekeepers.” The film stars Jason Statham, Josh Hutcherson and Minnie Driver. • “Mean Girls” (January 12): This is the film adaptation of the musical version that made waves on
