City of Bemidji utilities

The purpose of the Bemidji Public Works Department is to maintain the city’s streets and water, sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure. The city also provides refuse removal service.

The director of public works and city engineer is Sam Anderson, 333-1851.

City services are billed monthly to the City Utilities Department on one bill. Residents should receive their bill on the first of each month. Payment is due by the 21st of the month. If the 21st falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a holiday, payment may be made to the city on the next work day without penalty being assessed.

Payment can be made through automatic bank withdrawal, by mail and at the payment drop box on the Fourth Street Northwest side of City Hall. In-person payments can be made between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the front desk in City Hall by cash, check, MasterCard, Discover or Visa. Bills also can be paid online at the city’s website.

Utility providers

Otter Tail Power, 739-8877, supplies electricity to residents within the Bemidji city limits and around the perimeter of Lake Bemidji. Beltrami Electric Cooperative, 444-2540, provides service to a large area surrounding the city.

Established in 1940, Beltrami Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative located in

Bemidji. Beltrami Electric provides power to over 18,000 member-owners within a 3,000-square-mile service area that includes parts of Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca and Koochiching counties.

Otter Tail has its corporate headquarters in Fergus Falls. The company was established in Minnesota in 1907 as an electric utility. Otter Tail provides electricity to about 133,000 people in 424 communities.

The area gas companies that supply propane are the Bemidji Co-op Association, 751-4260; Lakes Gas, 759-0141; and Northdale Oil, 444-6637.

Minnesota Energy Resources supplies natural gas. The company can be reached for 24-hour emergency service at 800-889-4970 or non-emergency customer service at 800889-9508.

The Bemidji Co-op Association also supplies fuel oil. Another fuel oil supplier in the area is Bemidji Oil & Propane, 444-5522.
