frozen moments A handmade zine that has been produced as part of the wider study of collage. Working with a variety of imagery including, old photographs, receipts, tickets, scraps of paper, imagery from encyclopedias, and various vintage magazines and books. This zine showcases a series of nostalgic collages that aim to demonstrate the power that collage has in creating narratives. Drawing on peoples memories through nostalgic imagery such as, old photographs and various bits of ephemera is a technique applied to a lot of collage. Subconsciously you pause for a moment, reflect on the imagery that is in front of you, and then form your own judgement. It is a philosophy that is echoed by Sigmund Freud. ‘Today forgetting has become more of a puzzle than remembering, ever since we have learnt from the power of dreams and pathological phenomena that even something we thought had been forgotten long ago may suddenly re-emerge in consciousness.’ Whether it is from direct experience or through the diverse amount of media that surrounds us today, with Freud’s theory, collage has become a medium where there are no restrictions. Individuals connect with imagery in different ways, which ultimately results in new narratives being born. I hope you enjoy the work that I’ve produced, and are able to reflect on the collages to form your own narratives.
IT’S NOT WHERE YOU TAKE THINGS FROM, IT’S WHERE YOU TAKE THEM TO.

Running away was my only option.
My life has changed dramatically, whether it’s for better or worse I still don’t know.

We all strive to achieve something great.
regardless of what others say,
follow your dreams,
and you will be rewarded with joy and happiness.

To me she is the perfect woman,
maybe one day I will be able to express my love.
DESTRUCTION IS BUT THE PRELUDE TO CREATION.

We were told it was only going to be 6 months.
My family miss me very much,
I’m not sure when I will be able to return.
