Tye Randwick Council Art Walk Elle van Uden and Ben Allen, 2015 Neon nylon string, perforated clamps, UV LED lights. 600 x 800 x 400 cm Exhibited in NOX Night Sculpture Walk, Randwick Environment Park, September 11-13 Randwick City Council launched the NOX night sculpture walk to coincide with the annual Eco Fair and invited young artists to submit proposals. Elle van Uden and I submitted a proposal for Tye a light and string installation that utilised an existing steel structure. The site was formerly a ship building yard, with other industrial operations surrounding that were developed to aid Australian and US efforts in WWII. In recent years the site has been rehabilitated into a community environment park that seeks to invigorate the areas native flora. Elle and I would like to thank Randwick City Council for their support, both financial and administrative.

Tye is derived from the community centre’s transformation of the historically industrial site into a natural community-oriented environment. Similarly, the installation seeks to transform the naval store from an industrial relic to a foundation that supports organic expression. The forms are generated by the manipulation of linear elements into geometries inspired by the surrounding flora. The notion of simple linear geometries fashioning complex organic forms celebrates both the industrial past and organic present of the site.

Multibus Digital Model Making UNSW 2015 Ben Allen Gary Tong Chloe Rennie Lia Tsatsoulis Maggie Liu Design a children’s playground using digital fabrication technology as design tool and as fabrication method. The projects are broken up into successive stages of a design process informed by digital and analogue fabrication techniques.

The focus of the project was modelling and contructing protypes with digital technologies. The complex form of the multibus meant that initial prototyping was most easily achieved with a 3D printer. As the scale of the models increased laser cutting and stacking techniques became more economical and practical.

His & Hers Airspace Gallery Elle van Uden and Ben Allen Copper, polycarbonate, timber, motor. 40 x 40 x 170cm Exhibited in Airspace Projects, 4th December - 19th December 2015 His and Hers meditates illusions of movement between the straight line and the circle. Two separate entities rotate delicately in the same rhythm and time at fixed, opposite points on a circle. This work explores the creative and intimate relationship

between

collaborative

artists in the meditation of ideas, material, discussion and making.

Archicamp Studio in the Stick 2015 2015 ArchiCamp took place 2-5 October in Butterwick NSW (Hunter Valley). About 70 architecture and design students from 6 states gathered with some 20 guests and tutors, including Rick Leplastrier, Lindsay Johnston, Kerry and Lindsay Clare, and Drew Heath, aiming to directly benefit through design work the flood-damaged town of Dungog NSW, as well as future sustainable village of Shepherds Ground. I have taken an active role in the proposal for the Shepherds Ground site, doing all of the existing 3D modelling and participating in a number of design development meetings.
