LOTTE SUPER TOWER HOTEL, Seoul, South Korea

This project establishes a new model for high-rise hospitality, responding to the tower’s sparkling design with a faceted glass canopy at the entry and express elevators leading to a tripleheight sky lobby with an LED chandelier. Light-filled corridors are focused on spectacular views. In the guestrooms, folded walls resolve the perimeter’s diagonal columns with the vertical and horizontal surfaces of the center of the building. Sitting and sleeping areas are finished with a warm palette of wood, fabric, and leather, while sky viewing porches are lined with pearl-colored marble to catch the sun’s color. Jumeirah Messilah Beach Executive Lounge, Kuwait City, Kuwait This resort hotel brings five-star comfort to Kuwait City. Located on a historic site well-known to the local community, the hotel is conceived as a mosaic of buildings and gardens. Space meanders between interior and exterior, with an arrival court leading to a lobby, restaurant, and wedding hall. The sun is especially important in Middle Eastern cultures: Throughout the hotel design, digitally-created screens and perforated walls filter the sunlight. In the subterranean spa, vertical shafts of light animate the space and walls are subtly luminous. Project Facts Completion Year: 2014

Jet Airways Lounges Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, India As the world’s increasing interconnectedness and South Asia’s accelerating development fuel the expansion of service industries in India, new kinds of physical environments and new architectural languages are emerging. The airport lounge is a hybrid typology, uniquely emblematic of contemporary globalized culture yet influenced by regional vernacular architecture. The Jet Airways lounge design is a flexible system of wooden arches which that adapts to the particular requirements of each airport. Each of the wooden portals is designed digitally with a unique profile to reflect the lounge’s circulation and programmatic fields. The arches have lighting and electrical outlets built in so passengers can recharge portable devices, and every lounge offers wireless Internet connectivity. A sophisticated Flight Information Display System (FIDS) includes information about the destinations Jet Airways serves, and electronic art walls create a stimulating visual backdrop. After studying various systems of organization, designers arrived at a system of parallel arches shaped by circulation paths (a subtle reference to the ribbed structure of an airplane). Their shifting curvature expresses a sense of gentle movement. The new lounges offer travelers a tranquil resting place, a lively social atmosphere, refreshing shower facilities, and a full suite of business equipment. At the same time, they express India’s changing face by reinterpreting the materials and principles of traditional Hindu and Islamic architecture and synthesizing them with modern travel design and information technology. Conceived as an interior landscape, the lounge evokes the intricate geometries and carefully filtered views of a Mughal garden, defining pockets of activity without separating the space into isolated compartments. Programmatic areas are treated as islands with circulation space flowing around them, as the arches shelter travelers like a tree canopy. The lounge design draws inspiration from nature to blur the distinction between interior and exterior and create a sense of both expansiveness and intimacy.

Palazzo Condo Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada The ornamental intricacy of Venetian architecture, the glamour of Art Deco, the craftsmanship of blown glass, and the elegance of Fortuny textiles inspired this residential design. The entry sequence begins with a subterranean lobby accessed from underground parking and proceeds through a series of public areas to a residentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; club in the sky including a spa and restaurant. To help bring sunlight deep into the building, traditional Venetian architectural features such as semi-transparent screens and reflective materials are reinterpreted using contemporary technology. Overhead, a spectacular luminous ceiling is composed of pyramids of light that lead residents through the building.

MasterPlan for the City College of New York This project is a Master Plan for the entire 36.5 acre campus at the City College of New York located at 135th Street and Convent Avenue. City University commissioned this plan to evaluate the state of the existing campus in relation to the Strategic Plan created by the College. The goal is to plan for the building program over the next 20 years.
