Patron’s Message I grew up watching the Addams Family and it’s great to see a new generation of actors embracing the shenanigans of this ghoulish, but lovable family. An enormous amount of time has gone into preparing this wonderful show and I take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved. So a big ‘well done’ to the behind the scenes crew who in the lead up to and during the production have and will work hard to ensure that the performers can take to the stage to give and look their best. Congratulations to the costume and set designers and builders; make-up artists and hair dressers; sound and lighting technicians; the orchestra; the backstage production crew and props; choreography and dance teachers and the publicity team – you are all a crucial part of the production. Thanks also to friends and family who help out the cast and crew and provide much needed support. All of these people play an important role in the production of any theatrical work and all deserve our thanks and congratulations. Finally, I want to thank all of the performers who will share their amazing talent and allow us to escape our normal lives for a few hours to enjoy some fun and laughter. I hope everyone enjoys this terrific production of the ‘The Addams Family’ by the Bendigo Theatre Company. Cr Rod Fyffe Patron Bendigo Theatre Company
President’s Message Bendigo Theatre Company welcomes you to the kooky, hilarious world of ‘The Addams Family’. We are sure you will find this production a visual delight and be spellbound and entertained by the array of vibrant, strange characters who fill the stage with joy, life and amazing talent. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our creative production team, our tireless construction team, our fabulous musicians and of course our cast of highly-talented performers. Finally, we would like to thank you, the audience for your support and patronage. So all that remains is for you to sit back, relax and enter the weird, wacky world of Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the family. Enjoy. John Murray President Bendigo Theatre Company
Co-Director Vern Vern Wall Wall
Vern is thrilled to be a Co-Director for ‘The Addams Family’, having previously directed numerous musicals including ‘Leader of the Pack’, ‘Godspell’, ‘Carousel’, ‘Grease’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Annie’. Vern has also directed numerous plays and was part of the organising committee for the very successful 10XTen short play festival held earlier this year. Vern loves continuous theatre and this has been achieved in this amazing show through the use of a busy fly tower, dynamic set pieces, clever lighting and digital projection. Vern would like to thank all members of the production team for their hard work, especially Ken Wells for the brilliant sets. He would also like to give a huge thank you to the very talented group of Mandy Ellison as Co-Director, Toni Brandie as Choreographer and Josh Geddes as MD. Finally, huge thanks to the cast for their hard work, patience and talent, which sets new standards in community theatre in Bendigo and to my wife Susan and family for their continual support.
Co-Director Olivia MandyJacobs Ellison
Mandy has been involved in theatre as a performer, director and educator since she was bitten by the theatre bug in a high school production of ‘Oliver’. She studied Theatre and Drama in Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Education and Honours Degree in Drama and Psychology. For over 30 years she has been involved in Drama in education, completing a further Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare, as a VCE Drama teacher and examination assessor, writing curriculum and directing the annual Ensemble and Solo Performances, as well as creating performance works with young people for social commentary and educational films, including the Cybersafe educational DVD ‘Photograph’, ‘Restorative Practice’ and ‘Tolerance’ for the Social Justice legal forum. Mandy has worked in previous local productions, as Director of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ for BTC and ‘Blackrock’ for Eagle-Eyed Productions and on stage in BTC’s ‘Inheritance’, but is constantly drawn back to explore the art of drama and sees teaching-directing as a symbiotic ongoing relationship. She is currently enjoying a new role developing the specialist primary drama program at Girton Grammar School and is directing the Junior School Production, ‘Seussical Jr’.
Musical Director Joshua Geddes
Joshua Geddes is the Musical Director of the Boroondara Symphonic Band, and has held similar positions with the Bendigo and District Concert Band, London Consort of Winds Classical Ensemble, City of Glen Eira Band, and the Hyde St. Youth Band. 2016 sees him participating in masterclasses with the Orchestre Régional de Cannes P.A.C.A, and at Northwestern University in Chicago. Joshua Geddes studied at The University of Melbourne, under the mentorship of Professor John Hopkins OBE OAM. He has participated in masterclasses in Australia, the U.K and Europe. In 2014 Joshua was selected to take part in the 12th Interaktion Conducting workshop where he conducted an orchestra that included members of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Berlin Staatskapelle. Joshua has conducted in the Netherlands, Germany, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, The U.K., and Australia.
Choreographer Toni Brandie
Toni has thoroughly enjoyed her return to Bendigo Theatre Company, especially with such a quirky show! Toni has been dancing most of her life, she has also competed in eisteddfods and taught aerobics. Toni’s first show was ‘Oklahoma’ at age 14; after dancing in subsequent shows, Toni choreographed ‘Guys and Dolls’. Toni’s credits include ‘Me and My Girl’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and one of her all-time favourites - ‘Grease’. Toni feels honoured to be involved again, and working with such a great production team and cast; she hopes you enjoy watching the show as much as she has enjoyed every minute of rehearsal.
Joshua is currently coaching as part of the Academy of Creative Arts at Bendigo South East College, and teaches at Brighton Grammar School where he is the French Horn Tutor, conducts the Senior Symphony Orchestra, and the Middle School Concert Band. This is Joshua’s debut with Bendigo Theatre Company.
Rehearsal Pianist Eliza McKenna
Eliza began playing piano at the age of three. Since then, Eliza has competed and won numerous piano competitions, MAB exams and studied piano in Year 12 for Music Performance. Since completing VCE, Eliza has accompanied school choirs at a range of events such as musical competitions, ANZAC Day ceremonies and choral days. Earlier this year, Eliza accompanied a performance of Godspell which was performed by a local church congregation. ‘The Addams Family’ is Eliza’s first time working with Bendigo Theatre Company, and she has thoroughly enjoyed the kooky experience.
CREATIVE TEAM
GOMEZ ADDAMS Jason McMurray
Jason made his stage debut at age eleven in a local ACT production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’. After relocating to Bendigo at fifteen, Jason was awarded Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role by The Music Theatre Guild of Victoria for his portrayal of Amos Hart in BTC’s ‘Chicago’. He studied VET dance through BSSC and continued to perform in dance showcases throughout Victoria including the Melbourne Fringe Festival and locally through Z Fit Studios as a cabaret and couples pole dance instructor. He was lucky enough to be selected for a musical theatre grant in 2004, which allowed him to study stagecraft and performance technique with some of VCA’s top lecturers which put him on the path as a vocal/performance coach. Jason has continued to be challenged by his roles in productions such as ‘Les Misérables’, ‘The Mikado’, ‘Call Me Madam’, ‘Cats’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum’, ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Annie’, ‘Chicago’, Gary LeJeune in ‘Noises Off’ and most recently Valentine in ‘Mary Poppins’ and Jeffrey Bowen in an independent production of ‘[title of show]’. Not only is Jason appearing in the role of Gomez Addams, he has also designed the weird and wonderful costumes for the show. He hopes audiences will love his kooky family as much as he has enjoyed working with them all.
MORTICIA ADDAMS Laura-Jane Leach
Laura-Jane’s love of singing, dancing and acting, plus the thrill of performing, saw her take to the stage at an early age. Over the years, she has sung with many choirs, competed in the Bendigo Competitions and performed at Carols by Candlelight. She has also studied acting techniques with The National Institute of Dramatic Art and taken part in performance workshops with The National Theatre Drama School. Laura-Jane’s theatrical versatility is evident in the many roles she has brought to life: Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (2009), Zipporah in ‘The Prince of Egypt’ (2009), Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast ‘ (2010), Sonia in ‘Godspell’ (2012), Cinderella in ‘Cinderella’ (2013), Cindy Watkins in ‘Hairspray’ (2013), Annie in ‘Chicago’ (2014), Poppy Norton-Taylor in ‘Noises Off’ (2015) and Georgie in ‘Potato Sack’ (2016). She has pursued her love of the spoken word by completing her Masters in Speech Pathology, and now works with clients of all ages throughout Central Victoria. Laura-Jane is thrilled to be playing the role of Morticia Addams. She hopes you enjoy meeting her mysterious and kooky family!
WEDNESDAY ADDAMS Amy McMillan
Amy has enjoyed the thrill and challenge of portraying the crazy, but older, version of Wednesday Addams. Being able to work with such a talented and diverse cast and crew, she believes audiences will be impressed with the musical interpretation of the much-loved TV show. Amy has undertaken six years of contemporary vocal training with Caitlin Penno and studied VCE Drama and Music Performance at Catholic College Bendigo, winning Catholic College Bendigo’s 2015 Musician of the Year and also the Audience Award; her proudest achievement. Amy has taken to the stage in many different community shows, playing both leads and supporting roles such as Duffy in ‘Annie’, ‘Peter Pan’, Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Marian Paroo in ‘The Music Man’, ‘Hairspray’, the Narrator in ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and Mary Poppins. She also recently took to the stage in Three’s A Crowd’s 2016 production of ‘Assassins’ as an ensemble member, performed at the Old Castlemaine Gaol. Amy thanks you for taking time to come and experience the crazy story of ‘The Addams Family,’ and hopes you enjoy the show!
LUCAS BEINEKE Charlie Munday
Charlie’s desire for performing has grown significantly since auditioning for his first musical at age 11. His passion has seen him dance competitively in regional and state competitions, sing on stages all over Victoria and act in numerous musicals. Charlie has enjoyed chorus and supporting roles in ‘Annie’, ‘HONK!’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Grease’, ‘Wizard of Oz’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Assassins’. He has also been lucky enough to perform as Rooster in ‘Annie’, Professor Harold Hill in ‘The Music Man’, Aladdin in ‘Arabian Nights’, Neleus in ‘Mary Poppins’ and Shrek in ‘Ogre Ever After’. Charlie has recently received a scholarship to study musical theatre in New York City with the American Musical & Dramatic Academy, making ‘The Addams Family’ one of his last shows in Australia (for a little while!). Charlie would like to thank Bendigo Theatre Company for giving him the opportunity to perform in ‘The Addams Family’ with such a delightful and exceptionally talented cast.
PRINCIPAL CAST
UNCLE FESTER
PUGSLEY ADDAMS
Conor enjoys a love of performing arts that spans over 20 years in the UK and Australia, both off and on the stage. ‘The Addams Family’ is Conor’s third musical with Bendigo Theatre Company. After playing various roles in the ensembles of ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Chicago’, he felt it was his time to shine – and what better way than to stick a lightbulb in his mouth and fall in love with the moon. He has lots of previous acting experience, having taken leading roles in plays by Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Bertold Brecht, but this is his first time playing a Principal Role in a musical. Portraying the world’s favourite Uncle, he has thoroughly enjoyed the role in this fun show and felt humbled to be surrounded by such a fabulously talented cast and production team. He would like to thank SingStudio for giving him the confidence to have a go at singing and, of course, his own kooky family – Sarah, Aoife & Finn, for all the encouragement and support. He hopes you enjoy ‘The Addams Family’ – click, click.
Max began performing at age seven in his school production ‘One Little Cup’. Since then he has performed in numerous productions, such as ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Into the Woods’, The 39 Steps’, Wilbur Turnblad in ‘Hairspray’, ‘Snow White’ - his first BTC show, and most recently, ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Max also featured in a few television commercials at a young age, notably with Robert Harvey. If you asked him what his all-time favourite productions are, it would be a 3-way tie between ‘The Lion King’, ‘Les Misérables’ and ‘Matilda’. When not memorising lines, Max is a keen sportsman. He plays cricket, football, basketball, the occasional hit of golf and archery. Max would like to thank his fellow cast and everyone who has helped to bring ‘The Addams Family’ to Bendigo. Special thanks to Gael Emond who convinced him to audition. Max is so excited to be playing Pugsley Addams; he has had a blast in taking part and he hopes you enjoy ‘The Addams Family’!
Conor Cunningham
Max Beever (aged 15)
PRINCIPAL CAST
Grandma Addams Olivia Jacobs Olivia Jacobs is thrilled to have the opportunity to play Grandma Addams, the demented Addams elder. Olivia has recently had a break from the stage to pursue the other side of theatre, directing Bendigo Theatre Company’s summer pantomime ‘Snow White’ earlier this year and Co-Directing BTC’s ‘Mary Poppins’ in 2015. Olivia has a passion for theatre and has studied theatre arts at GOTAFE Regional Academy of Dramatic Arts (GRADA). This is Olivia’s third time on stage with Bendigo Theatre Company, the first being ‘Annie’ in 2010 where she played Bonnie Boylan, the second being ‘Peter Pan’ in 2011 where she played Mrs Darling and Skylights the pirate. Olivia is so excited to bring Bendigo her kooky Grandma, and she would like to thank her fellow Jacobs witches for the inspiration of this character.
Lurch
Cousin It
Damien Hurrell
Kathryn Hallinan
Damien performed in a number of stage shows and with multiple choirs while at school and university, including the South Australian Senior Secondary Chorus, Adelaide Chorus, Flinders, Adelaide and Monash University Choral Societies, and the World Festival Choir. For the last 15 years the demands of parenthood and his career as a registered nurse have been his priority, but over the last few years he has played in small productions of ‘Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat’ (Reuben) and ‘Godspell’ (Judas). Since Damien has also been very tall since he was 15, the role of Lurch was a great opportunity to come back to performing in a big production. Damien has enormously enjoyed being part of this, his first BTC production, and is sure it won’t be his last!
After taking a break to pursue a career in radio, Kathryn returns to the stage to play the loveable Cousin It. Throughout her three years broadcasting for Bendigo’s Fresh FM, Kathryn became well known to listeners. In 2012, she had the exciting opportunity to interview 2011 X Factor Finalist Declan Sykes. Theatre credits include: Lily St Regis in ‘Annie’ (2012), Tweedle Dee in ‘Alice in Wonderland’ (2011), Nibs in BTC’s ‘Peter Pan’ (2011), BTC’s ‘Annie’ (2010) and Chip in Nexus BYT’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2010). Kathryn loves the challenge that Cousin It brings.
SUPPORTING CAST
Mal Beineke
Alice Beineke
Tom Fraser
Alicia Barker
Tom is very excited to play Mal in Bendigo Theatre Company’s production of ‘The Addams Family’. Tom has previously played many roles with theatre companies around Bendigo including The Propietor in ‘Assassins’, Peron in ‘Evita’, Corny Collins in ‘Hairspray’ and Nanki-Poo in ‘The Mikado’. This is Tom’s first experience performing in the new Ulumbarra Theatre and he is looking forward to the experience of performing before such a large audience in a state-of-the-art space. The rehearsal period has been intense for Tom as he had to juggle various commitments from the start, the highlight would be the chance he had to walk through Central Park in New York City, with his wife Alice Beineke (Alicia Barker). Although a total coincidence that they were there at the same time, the chance to act out scenes from this show ‘in real life’ proved a real boon, and yes, they took LOTS of photos.
A seasoned actor with Bendigo Theatre Company, Alicia has performed in numerous dramas and musicals including ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Beauty & The Beast’, ‘Into The Woods’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘Les Misérables’ ‘Don’s Party’, ‘The Removalist’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Chicago’. She most recently had the honour of playing the title role in ‘Mary Poppins’, and Susan Blackwell in the independently produced ‘[title of show]’ in 2015. Alicia has undertaken five years of vocal coaching from Adam Lyon, Caitlin Penno and Alex Frank. She is forever grateful for the amazing opportunities that she has had throughout her involvement in the local theatre and performing arts scene and hopes to engage more of the community as a member of the Bendigo Theatre Company Committee.

Chris Pedler
Rebecca O’Sullivan
‘The Addams Family’ is Chris’ first musical effort with Bendigo Theatre Company. The possibility of performing on the Ulumbarra stage and working with such a talented and professional cast was all the convincing Chris needed to take on a new challenge. Chris first performed with BTC in 2011. He returned in 2014 for the premiere run of BTC production of ‘Turning Tables’ and last year was in the complex-yet-amusing comedy ‘Noises Off’. This year he also made his directorial debut as part of BTC’s Tenx10 project.Chris is excited to further develop his theatre skills with BTC and, as always, is very surprised to be included in such a great production.
This mum of two is passionate about singing. She originally taught at a Camberwell studio and performed at venues around Melbourne. She portrayed leading lady Angela in ‘Luckiest Girl Alive’ (Turbo Productions). Bec had a speaking role in ‘One DHS’, a short film produced by the Department of Human Services. She is best known for her work as a P!NK tribute artist, touring Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. Vashti Lamaro
Steven Flanagan
Vashti has pursued a passion for dance performance since starting dance lessons aged five. She has performed at various annual dance eisteddfods, participated in Major’s Old Time Music Hall productions and recently embraced the opportunity to choreograph Dribs n’ Drabs Cabaret Show in addition to her on-stage character roles. Vashti is committed to teaching dance to the next generation and promotion of the arts as a committee member of Bendigo Competitions Society Inc. She is excited to be appointed Dance Captain for BTC’s ‘The Addams Family’ and hopes you enjoy this mysterious show!
It’s been 25 years since Steve was last on stage with the then newly formed ‘Not Another Theatre Company’ in Cranbourne, Victoria. Having now raised a kooky family of his own, Steve figured auditioning for a role in the kookiest family of all was a good way to resurrect a passion for theatre that had for too long been decaying unloved in the graveyard. Steve is feeling very blessed to be involved with such a passionate, talented cast and crew in ‘The Addams Family’.
Ancestor - Orphan Girl
Ancestor - 1920’s Flapper
Madi Churchill (aged 17)
Jennifer McClean

In the future she plans to study musical theatre and acting professionally and hope to one day pursue it as a career. Madi loves participating in Bendigo Theatre Company’s shows because there is always a wonderfully talented cast, and ‘The Addams Family’ cast is no exception.
Jennifer has been dancing for 19 years in all styles of dance and performing at many competitions around Victoria. In 2011, Jennifer danced at Disneyland and Universal Studios as a part of her dance school, the Michelle Slater Performing Arts Studio. While training from the age of 10, until recently she has performed in many musical theatre shows including ‘Seussical the Musical’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘The King and I’, ‘Dimboola’, ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Sweet Charity’. Ancestor - Saloon Bar Girl
Ancestor - Spanish Conquistador
Saari Frochot-Ryan
Sam Pellegrino
After an 18-month break from theatre, Saari is back to tread the boards. With BTC you might remember her as Velma in ‘Chicago’ or Brooke in ‘Noises Off’. She also played Lucy in ‘Avenue Q’ for Three’s A Crowd, for which she was commended by the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria. Saari has played many roles with CT Productions – Adelaide in ‘Guys and Dolls’ being her favourite. Outside of musical theatre, Saari has performed as an international guest artist with her burlesque work in Paris. She is also the owner of Z Fit Studios, a local dance and fitness community.
Sam made his stage debut with the BTC in their 2004 production of ‘Grease’ as Danny. From that first musical he became hooked with amateur theatre, and has done a few more along the way. Sam has been cast in the role of the Spanish Conquistador “Olé Olé Olé” and is thrilled to be working with such a talented bunch of ancestral misfits in this fantastic musical. One aspect Sam enjoys is watching people debut in musicals and seeing them grow and shine throughout the rehearsals and production. Away from the theatre, Sam enjoys family time with Lauren and the three little bears, um, kids.
Ancestor - Pirate
Ancestor - Marie Antoinette
