BENDIGO THEATRE COMPANY INC. Presents
January 2017 BTC Arts Shed 15-17 Allingham Street, Golden Square
BTC supporting the Arts in our community
SYNOPSIS The traditional story of a poor Chinese boy living with his laundress mother. He is used by an evil ‘uncle’ to obtain the ‘wonderful lamp’. A modern story with modern songs and references, lots of slapstick, comedy, magic and pantomime.
DIRECTOR’S NOTES I fell in love with pantomime when I was a young girl growing up in Mildura and I was selected for the role of Little Red Riding Hood in the pantomime by Move Dance Theatre. This show was funny. It had some great music including original songs, lots of over the top acting, villains to boo and heroes to cheer. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing the stage with the different audiences who participated each night. I thought, “Everyone needs to experience this for themselves.”
Bendigo Theatre Company has established a fabulous tradition of performing a summer pantomime at The Arts Shed. From Cinderella, to Snow White and now Aladdin, our pantomime series has introduced many newcomers to the fun and frivolity of this genre. An opportunity to welcome new actors, backstage crew and novice directors like myself is something BTC can be very proud of. Community theatre is for everyone and we are lucky that it is so.
