Steel & Glass Shelves
Fabricated custom steel and glass shelves for a kitchen renovation. Designed, built and installed: an anchored tube frame structure on existing wall, and a series of sleeves inserted in the tile wall to prevent cracking and to correct plumb. Created a floating effect with all hardware hidden from view. Devised contingency plan upon discovering building challenges during demolition. Completed project within limited budget and short timeframes without compromising original design.

METAL SHUTTER HOUSES Suspended Lobby Ceiling
I worked alongside my employer and the developer to create a concept and design of the curved ceiling whose waves are visually continuous and pass through the main entrance from the outside. The shutters are the same ones as the operable sunscreens used by residents and covering the facade. I designed the system of 15 removable panels that attach to the frame which keeps them suspended with no visible fasteners. As Project Manager, I saw through the planning, construction, and installation as a designer, draftsman, and fabricator through its completion.

THE ANTICIPATORY CITY Pratt Institute School of Architecture Group Thesis
The ‘Refuse’ model was constructed out of found objects lost near the site. We gave all these ordinary objects a new history and meaning, based on the essence of their intended function and purpose. The pieces were labeled and given a definition, and with their new definitions we created a taxonomy of interacting parts. It became the foundation of our new language for building the Anticipatory City.

THE ANTICIPATORY CITY Pratt Institute School of Architecture Group Thesis
My thesis assignment was to propose and develop a city on the site of the abandoned airport in Flushing Meadows, Queens. The site, untouched for over 50 years, has regenerated as a wetland which buried the runway and engulfed the vehicles and hangars. The challenge was to create a plan for building new ground on an ambiguous and perpetually evolving site with a rich and outdated historical context. In a sense we had to reinsert and rewrite its history which had long been forgotten and undocumented, to provide a strong foundation to begin a new story. v

THE ANTICIPATORY CITY Pratt Institute School of Architecture Group Thesis
The abandoned airport at Flushing Meadows is the site we inherited for a new ground. The proposed city is an autopoetic machine. It is through language, via storytelling, that the Anticipatory City grows. It embraces and maintains a collective which never loses the value of the individual and which operates without underlying myth. We are a city of makers; we craft our own. It is with a new catalogue of words, artifacts, spaces, that we find individuation; we find future.

THE ANTICIPATORY CITY Pratt Institute School of Architecture Group Thesis
The thesis concept dealt with this metaphor of ground by creating a historical framework we called the anti-myth in order to build on. The city became a self-generating machine operating through its own language, which redefined the remnants of its past and became the building blocks of its foundation.

CENTRIFUGE Competition for Park Sculpture
The sculpture proposed for the Myrtle Ave-Washington Park entrance of Fort Greene Park was inspired by a variety of interacting elements: the beauty and heritage of the park, the dynamics of the parks guests, and the economical use of lasting materials that will stand through the seasons.Â

CENTRIFUGE Competition for Park Sculpture
The project is called “Centrifuge” by the way two forms deviate from a ‘sacred’ and invisible point. This point is placed in the middle of the existing oval courtyard and lies on the axis which is drawn from the street corner and through the ‘Prison Ship’s Martyrs Monument,’ dividing the park through its Northeast entrance steps. It provides bench spaces for reflection and rest and also serves as a threshold that welcomes guests in and out of the park.

CENTRIFUGE Competition for Park Sculpture
A sheet metal cut-plan shows the placement of each part, meeting the sustainable fabrication goal of using all materials ordered and eliminating scrap waste. Centrifuge challenges a property of fluidity by using mechanically fastened and welded sheet metal pieces of different opacities. The perforated steel sheet gives the sculpture a transparency and lightness and the opaque sheet contributes to structure and rigidity. Together, the sustainable and conceptual purposes are the governing force in creating a composition of diverse and fluid curves, originally inspired by Olmstead’s proposed and never-built fountain intended for the site.
