F L E XI BLE C AST IN G TAP E BENECAST™ FLEX
6
BeneCast™ Flex, semi-rigid casting tape, is made out of polyester based materials which make BeneCast™ Flex stronger and more durable than other semi-rigid tapes. The BeneCast™ FLEX never fully hardens yet remains resilient, even in its cured state. It provides a semi-rigid support of the limb, while allowing some degree of soft tissue function, and will revert to its cured shape after deformation. Made from multi-directional stretch bandage that conforms to the body contours without folds or tucks. It enables easy application with soft, smooth edges for patient comfort. BeneFlex™ Semi Rigid is easy to unroll, can be applied either wet or dry, and has tack free additives to increase control and reduce application time.
HYGIENE
Easy Removal
The unique porosity and moisture resistant properties of BeneCast™ Flex allows casts to breathe and dryout easily, which decreases body odours and skin maceration under the cast.
REMOVAL BeneFlex™ Semi Rigid can easily be removed by either unwrapping the material or by using bandage scissors to cut the cast. Black Flexible

B EN E P LAS ™ P R O BenePlas™ Pro is the core material for many Hand Therapists, providing a slightly sticky surface when warm, which helps the material stay in place to assist in creating an intimate fit. A permanent bond is achieved by applying dry heat and pinching it together firmly. Splints will hold their shape against the pull of strong dynamic components and against hyper tonicity. Its unique qualities make BenePlas™ Pro perfect for upper and lower extremity positioning splints and paediatric, non-weight bearing AFOs. The combined drape with controlled, resistive stretch of BenePlas™ Pro allows aggressive, firm handling to form a rigid splint that conforms perfectly to the body.
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
Perforations
• Firm handling can be used when moulding.
20
• Working time (1/8”): allow four to six minutes of moulding time to fully set up. • Ideal for abnormal tone conditions or joint contractures when patients are unable to cooperate. • Fingerprints and other marks can be smoothed away by rubbing the surface gently while the splint is warm. • Heat hard edges with a heat gun or warm water to soften and rub for a smooth professional look. • No reinforcement is required as the finished splint has maximum rigidity.
RECOMMENDED FOR: • Large splint usage • Fracture bracing Perforations Available
• Knee splints for immobilisation • Ankle stirrup splints and foot drop splints • Body jackets, Elbow, Forearm & Shoulder splints • Spasticity splints • Neurological injury splints

THERMOPLASTIC & ACCESSORIES
BE N EPL AS ™ LOW T EMP ERATU RE T H ERMO P LAST IC S INSTRU CTI O NS BeneCare™ Medical offer therapists a complete range of Low Temperature Thermoplastic Splinting materials that meet both the needs of the therapist and the patient. These materials are backed up by the complete BeneCare™ range of thermoplastic accessories as well as neoprene splints and supports, again with many options and colours. Our guide below allows the therapist to choose between different BenePlas™ Plastics each with their own unique properties, colours, perforations, thicknesses and usability, enabling the therapist to choose the BenePlas™ plastic that most satisfies the needs of the patient.
One characteristic that highly influences selection is the degree of resistance to stretch (RTS) and the amount of force needed when applying a material and which will determine the amount of handling it can withstand. To decide this we have provided a chart to describe each materials resistance to stretch (RTS), with a material with minimum RTS requiring only light handling and whose properties allow it to stretch or spread by gravity alone. On the other side of the scale are materials that have a maximum RTS and which will tolerate aggressive handling and will require holding until cool to prevent it reverting back into its original shape.
WHICH THICKNESS? Deciding which thickness to use is determined by the type of splint you are making with 1.6–2.0mm useful for lightweight supports, such as hand and finger splints, and where 2.4 - 3.2mm is useful for moderate to heavyweight supports were permanent or static dynamic splinting is required.

Minimum
BenePlas Pro-Plus
Achieve intimate fit with gentle pulling/stroking. Use very light touch to folor stretch
Minimum: Use for smaller hand and wrist splints or for patients who have the ability to hold or be placed in the desired position during the splinting process. Only light pulling and gentle stroking is required to stretch the material, an ideal feature for painful or post-surgical application.
Minimum to Moderate

Moderate: Use for all type of splints: from fingers to elbows; hand-based or forearm-based; static progressive or dynamic splints.

Moderate to Maximum
BenePlas Pro
Achieve exact fit with strong pulling and firm holding in place
Maximum
BenePlas Max
Achieve good fit with heavy pulling and continuous, firm holding in place
With experience, the splinter can use this type of material most efficiently. Inexperienced splinters find this material most forgiving and user friendly
Maximum: Use for larger splints and orthoses, for the elbow, forearm, shoulder, lower extremity and trunk. Ideal when firm handling is required, such as with orthopaedic or neurologically injured patients with spasticity or abnormal tome or joint contractures. Inexperienced or heavy-handed splinters will appreciate this characteristic
SPLINT TYPE? The chart below is a basic guide to show which types of plastic can be used to make different types of splints also taking into consideration the RTS (Resistance to Stretch). Additionally other choices would need to be taken into consideration, such as the thickness of BenePlas, used to strengthen the splint, as well as the style of perforation that will weaken the splint.
