EVENT & MEDIA
BACKDROPS
AT BENEFITZ WE HAVE THE COMPLETE SOLUTION FOR ALL YOUR EXHIBITION AND EVENT DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS. We import or manufacture the hardware and then print and finish the easy-to-assemble and transport displays. A key ingredient for most events is having a Backdrop that can be used to provide high impact branding for Event Sponsors. As stage backdrops, photographic backdrops or a prominent wall for sponsor acknowledgements. We have units that can be rented for events, or purchased for ongoing use. Our standard Event & Media Backdrops are 2.4 metres by 2.4 metres in size. The branding is very simply created by printing two 2.4 metres by 1.2 metres rigid sheets on our state-of-the-art direct to substrate high resolution flatbed printing machinery. We will deliver and pick up from event venues in Auckland. This is a very cost effective solution that can also be duplicated to add additional width (i.e. 4.8 metres wide). We can also custom produce other sizes that are required. For packages, pricing and more contact your Benefitz Account Manager.

BENEFITZ PEOPLE
Rob Gunston GM, Benefitz
The start of the year signalled a significant change in the day-to-day management of Benefitz with Rob Gunston appointed General Manager of the business. This was a totally new role for our business. When announcing the appointment Managing Director Aidan Bennett made the following comments: “Many will have seen Rob taking more responsibility for things over the past year or so, working closely with myself, other directors and Benefitz managers/ supervisors. He is a real leader and we feel he has a very good understanding of all parts of our business. He is pretty much a natural fit to be the GM of this dynamic and changing business.”
ABOUT ROB GUNSTON (It may have been written by Rob!)
Rob Gunston is a hands-on professional who likes to exercise both the left and right sides of his brain on a daily basis, whilst doing as little actual physical exercise as possible. With over 15 years’ experience in the creative industries, Rob has had an evolving career including graphic design, web development, marketing, printing, finishing, management and IT/infrastructure. During his career he has overseen major projects and marketing initiatives for National and International brands in both New Zealand and the UK. As a child Rob lived in Kenya for a few years, but grew up in the ‘small’ market town of Wantage, Oxfordshire (population 10,000 – that’s small for England), before moving ‘up north’ to Stoke-on-Trent to study for a multimedia degree at Staffordshire University. Whilst studying/drinking at University he met his future wife Kay, and they stuck around Stoke for a further 10 years, in which time they had a daughter, Emily, before moving to New Zealand on a whim.
Rob has had an evolving career including graphic design, web development, marketing, printing, finishing, management and IT/infrastructure. Rob can moonlight as a drummer, DJ and stage lighting/sound technician (you’ll find him running the main stage at the Helensville A&P show), loves food, drink, music and movies, and considers himself to be rubbish at golf. BENEFITZ MAKEOVER
Benefitz HQ gets a new look! The entrance and foyer of Benefitz main office on the corner of Constellation and Parkway Drive’s has recently undergone a fantastic makeover. “We purchased the building back in 2003,” says Managing Director Aidan Bennett. “In those first few years we made some changes which included the ‘industrial look’ for the entrance and office area with polished concrete floors and work benches. It needed to be refreshed, so we challenged our creative team to come up with something striking. We are thrilled with the result.”
Olive and | love greeting people at our funky entrance area!

BENEFITZ NEWS
www.benefitz.co.nz
The brief for the designers included ensuring that all that was done was created from items Benefitz could produce. The ‘wow-factor’ is evident now when you walk up to the entrance which now resembles an Apple Mac Laptop. The old dated entrance has gone, replaced with printed graphics on the floor, exterior wall and entrance doors that visually create a huge laptop. Open the entrance door and a cafe theme has been created in the foyer with printed graphics and other items designed, printed, manufactured and installed by the Benefitz team. “Those who come in really like the vibe of the place,” adds Aidan Bennett. “It has a real creative feel to it which complements what we do.” New cafe-style furniture has also been introduced and there is a feature wall that highlights many different items which Benefitz can produce on the range of high-tech machinery. A new reception desk has also been created that includes the Benefitz Future Thinkers logo illuminated with LED lighting. We love the new look!

VIDEO
Video
Now a must for online marketing If you’re not creating videos for your website yet, you’re in the minority. A recent report featuring insights from over 600 marketers revealed companies are embracing video content. The majority of brands are producing videos – not just because they’re popular, but because they’re highly effective. Three-quarters of respondents create videos for their target audiences. This makes video one of the most important content marketing formats. “We have had a video on our own website for the last 10 years and it has proven to be a real selling point,” says Benefitz Managing Director Aidan Bennett. “The making of these videos is quite often viewed as being expensive, but this is no longer the case. Our customers now have access to having Video on their websites at a fraction of the cost.”

BENEFITZ PEOPLE
Leo Kitt-Yeng Web Guru
At Benefitz we have lots of very clever people. One of our cleverest is Leo Kitt-Yeng a programmer in our web development area. Leo joined Benefitz directly from Massey University a few years ago and has become a valuable member of the team. We talked to Leo about her role at Benefitz and what spins her wheels when she is not ‘doing the business’ as part of our online team. How long have you been at Benefitz? LK-Y: Reaching six years How did you come to join Benefitz? LK-Y: After graduating from university, my former lecturer recommended me to give Benefitz a go. So here I am still having a blast. Tell us a little bit about your background? LK-Y: I was born in Malaysia, growing up in a lovely town called Johor Bahru. 10 years ago I came to New Zealand as an uni student and instantly fell in love with this country therefore decided to call it home. Here is also where I’ve met my wonderful fiancé Jason and we are looking forward to getting married later this year. What do you like about the company? LK-Y: I have been given the opportunity to work on lots of interesting and challenging projects. Everyone at Benefitz enjoys having a bit of laugh and there’s never a dull moment. What are your interests outside of work? LK-Y: Spending time with my family became my biggest interest as my parents live in Malaysia. When they are here for holiday, I’m all down to having lots of family time. I love exploring new recipes and enjoy cooking for my family and friends.
Everyone at Benefitz enjoys having a bit of a laugh and there’s never a dull moment. What advancements in the online space excite you the most? LK-Y: As data volumes grow and more new and improved technologies are emerging, companies are adopting realtime analytics such as Uber who analyse real-time data to estimate the arrival time of its vehicles, real-time pricing and real-time driver’s rating through its app. By combining mobile technology with cloud infrastructure, real-time location data and other innovations, Uber has changed the concept of how the taxi industry works. What’s the best place you’ve ever visited in the world and why? LK-Y: I have recently travelled to Taiwan and I loved it. Lots of shopping and food. My personal preference will be Taipei, it is a city that never sleeps and is also a food lover’s paradise. Any advice for budding Web Programmers? LK-Y: Keep on learning and broadening your skills. The knowledge and experience you will gain makes a difference.

Benefitz prints an award winning book As has been detailed elsewhere in this magazine, Benefitz has a real capability around printing and finishing books. It’s a growing market for the business. It is a thrill that a recent cookbook printed by Benefitz received a prestigious award.
‘Nibbles for Bubbles’, written by Gillian Flower, won ‘Best Pairing Food and Wine Book’ in the Gourmand Best in the World Awards’ announced in China in late May. This was the second book for Gillian who has been in the food and wine business for over three decades. As a restaurateur and commercial caterer in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. party, casual drinks with friends, or a day outdoors. Perfect nibbles for the perfect bubbles. The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Every year, they honour the best food and wine books, printed or digital, as well as food television. Books from 205 countries participate in these prestigious awards, the only international competition of the sector. Gillian Flower was thrilled with the part that Benefitz played in producing the high quality book. She said: “Thank you Kent and Benefitz for the high quality printing which helped take the book to an award winning level”
BOOK PRINTING
Book Printing Right here!
With the installation of three key pieces of technology, Benefitz is making it realistic and affordable for publishers and writers to print their books right here in New Zealand. These machines are the JetSX B2 Inkjet Printing Press, Horizon PUR Perfect Binder and Horizon Hard Case Book Binder. Benefitz JetSX B2 Inkjet Printing Press is the perfect printing machine to print short to medium run books. It is a digital printing press so printing plates are not required. It has a sheet size of 740mm x 530mm (B2), the biggest of any flat sheet digital press in Australasia. The inkjet ink is durable, very similar to offset printing inks. The Press can print black and white and full colour in duplex (2 sides of a sheet at once). A big advantage is books can be printed stacked, meaning no extra costs for collating are incurred. Benefitz Horizon BQ-470 PUR Perfect Binder enables the Benefitz team to take the printed sheets from the Benefitz JetSX B2 Inkjet Press and produce finished square spine (PUR bound) books of virtually any shape or size. The BQ470 is a fully automated perfect binder, producing up to 1,350 superior-quality perfect bound books per hour. For those who wish to have their books with the hard cover finish we are able to do this on our Benefitz Horizon HCB-2 Hard Case Binder. The HCB-2 is the ideal solution for producing ‘On Demand’ case bound books. The binding system is designed with an ergonomic concept to increase productivity and efficiency.
This is the perfect solution for short to medium run books to be printed locally. Benefitz can also help with getting books printed offshore should that be the more costeffective solution.
THE FACTS • Total solution for small or larger print-runs. • It is now economical to print just 50 or 100 books. • All done in-house at Benefitz – Print PUR or Hard Case Bind. • Great service for self-publishers. • Book publishing expertise. • We can help getting books printed off-shore as well.

Yearbooks made easy!
The “Future Thinking” philosophy is very evident with the Benefitz innovative online system that helps school and other entities produce yearbooks very easily. Benefitz Fusion Yearbook System allows schools to create their own yearbooks online and then have them printed and bound in high quality by Benefitz. Over 50 New Zealand schools now use this system for their Yearbook. So how does the Fusion Yearbook System work? • The system completely removes the need for schools to invest in expensive graphics software to produce the finished artwork for the Yearbook. The artwork is totally produced online using the Fusion Web-based Platform that has been cleverly developed and continues to be refined.
14
BENEFITZ NEWS

• The school can assign its Yearbook Coordinator as the “Administrator” of the system with simple password access. Then access can be provided to others who can make contributions to specific aspects of each Yearbook. For example, each Student can personally upload their own information to the Yearbook.

What costs are involved in using the Fusion Yearbook System? • The costs of using the Fusion Yearbook System are no more than producing the Yearbook by contracting somebody to design and produce the artwork for the book and then contracting a printer to print it. • Benefitz is providing each school with the opportunity to use the Fusion Web-based Platform to design and compile the content for the Yearbook and will then print the Yearbook from a pdf file generated by the system once it is completed. • It is very easy for the school. They receive one invoice for the total production of the book, inclusive of the use of the Fusion Web-based Platform. • This cost includes any technical support needed for the school when using the online system.

Prior to rejoining Benefitz earlier this year she had been Marketing Manager for a North Shore based marine business. Charlotte’s return is a real boost for Benefitz. Her design experience coupled with her commercial experience working on ‘the client side’ means she has a very good perspective on business and how Benefitz can be of real value. She is particularly keen on new media aspects, such as web development and social media. Tell us about your young family? Charlotte Clare: My Husband Ben and I have two young boys Cooper (5) and Charlie (21 months). Ben is a Commercial Real Estate agent for Barfoot & Thompson Whangaparaoa. What else have you been up to since leaving Benefitz in 2012? CC: Since leaving Benefitz I have worked for BEP Marine (a marine electronics company) while studying marketing at Massey University. At BEP I was responsible for formulating, directing and coordinating marketing activities to promote products for multiple electrical brands in the Asia Pacific Region. I developed marketing strategies based on knowledge of the company objectives, market characteristics and channel needs. I provided strategic direction for company and product branding. What are your interests outside of work? CC: Boating, walking, exploring. wine, gardening and spending time with family and friends. You obviously enjoyed your time with Benefitz as a Designer? CC: As a designer at Benefitz it was great working along side other creatives and drawing inspiration from each other. What made you decide to come back to Benefitz? CC: Benefitz has a talented bunch of people, who I have a lot of admiration for. Benefitz has an infectious work
environment that is a buzz to be involved with - I missed that. Then throw in all the variety of solutions to help people communicate and I couldn’t resist! What are the your favourite solutions that Benefitz provides? CC: Our number one USP is the range of our services that we offer. What I discovered on the client side is that there is no other company like it. The flexibility we have to customise solutions to fit customer needs is world class. You are obviously enjoying being back, what are your goals in the role? CC: I love working with people and helping people develop and execute marketing initiatives that drive their customer sales. That is rewarding in itself. What are the best couple of projects you’ve worked on since being back at Benefitz? CC: An App development for a marine customer and a bespoke trade show stand for another customer that we designed and built at Benefitz for a global product launch in the US. Any advice for clients who want to get the most out of what Benefitz can offer? CC: Having a clear view of what you are trying to achieve before starting a project. Define your objectives. These are being produced on the Benefitz B2 JetSX Inkjet machine and Aidan explains that the inkjet press is a key ingredient of this new business. “It is a real advantage having a sheet size of B2 (740mm x 530mm) as we are able to lay items such as these books up several times for economies of scale. The machine prints photos very sharply so provides a great solution all round.” Aidan says the machine complements the fact that
Benefitz is one of New Zealand’s leading exponents of Personalised Printing – or printing unique items from databases. “We have invested heavily in this area of our business. Our powerful solution is achieved by pairing the magical XMPIE software with our printing technology. XMPIE is a product of FujiXerox.” “The neat thing is the Benefitz B2 JetSX Inkjet machine has also offered fresh challenges and retraining for members of our offset printing team. It is operated on a rotational basis by our printers who also work on our Komori and Heidelberg offset machinery. It is no secret that this is technology of the future and through our investment our team are being exposed to this very early.”

A major technology investment was made by Benefitz with the installation of the VUTEk EFI LED GS3250LX Flatbed Printer. This machine was the first of its kind in the New Zealand market, and with its innovative LED ‘cool cure’ ink-curing system. The technology was chosen for some real advantages.

Josh Simpson (left) and operator Mike Webb and the Benefitz Vutek LED Flatbed printer.
Firstly, the VUTEk EFI is consistent with Benefitz commitment to green technology as it contains no VOCs, uses less consumables, produces less waste, uses less energy and has the ability to print on recycled and other materials with ease. Secondly, the lower curing temperatures enable Benefitz to print heat sensitive and thin materials without buckling or head strikes, adding significantly to its portfolio of applications. Additionally, the environmental benefits mean that less energy is required, with the extra benefit of the lamps having a longer life span.
“The LED curing lamps don’t need to warm up before we use the printer, speeding up set-up times,” says Benefitz Director Dallas Bennett. “The machine increased our capacity with a leap forward in speed – being two times faster – and quality, over the machinery it replaced.” The VUTEk’s LED ink curing technology also delivers high quality and high adhesion in order to maximise the visual allure of promotional materials, including signage, retail POS, exhibition, display, billboards and fleet graphics. “This is new technology to future proof our business in this flatbed space,” adds Dallas Bennett. “We have been thrilled with our choice and we are once again leading the way by being the first to adopt the LED ‘cool cure’ technology in the New Zealand market.” At 3.2 metres in print width capability, the machine also provides the perfect back-up for the Benefitz UviStar Pro8 5 metres wide billboard machine. Both machines also offer the flexibility of printing roll-to-roll or as flatbed machines.

Benefitz Mutoh. Large format printing machine.
High quality large images!
New technology makes a difference Early this year Benefitz made an investment to update virtually all of the companies large format printing machinery. These machines print high quality and up to 1.6 metres wide. The first new machine to be installed was the HP 360 Latex Printer. This machine uses water-based odourless inks offering a range of advantages. This 6-colour machine prints on a range of substrates with a big plus being that every print comes off completely dry and ready to finish and deliver, or can be laminated immediately. Some ink processes require what is called ‘degassing’ in the industry – latex does not. A big advantage is that these inks are also very eco-friendly.

PROJECT PROFILE
Turning modems into works of art! The Benefitz ability to print on just about anything has played a part in realising technology business Orcon’s hopes to ‘banish the boring modem’. Benefitz has recently printed hundreds of the modems featuring artworks from five New Zealand artists. These have turned the modems into a works of art. “When we initially sat down and discussed how Orcon could liven up their modems we talked about using photographs,” explains Benefitz Director Mike Nolan. “This gave them the idea that we could print high quality durable images directly onto the modem so members of their team came up with the very clever idea of actually making them works of art by engaging the artists.” These artists are Otis Frizzell, Flox (Hayley King), Anna Leyland, Askew One and Andrew J. Steel. They have all crafted unique modem designs for the Orcon Designer Series. Each modem artwork is a limited edition. The Orcon Designer Series is also helping to solve a real problem for home broadband users. “Every week our customers call us with a common problem – they’re experiencing internet connectivity issues due to where they have placed their modem,” says Taryn Hamilton, General Manager of Orcon. “Modems are often thrown in the cupboard, tucked under the couch or hidden somewhere far out of sight, when actually, they should be in a prominent spot for best coverage throughout the house,
and where provides the strongest signal for devices like smart TVs that need the most bandwidth. “We wanted to shake up the look of these seemingly boring units and what better way than collaborating with a bunch of super-talented Kiwis creatives. We’re stoked with the results – the modems all look amazing, have come out different, and we reckon there’s a modem to appeal to everyone.” Otis Frizzell’s ‘Cable Manaia’ channels authentic Aotearoa designs; Flox’s design includes the infusion of bright colours and native birds; Anna Leyland’s is titled ‘Perception’; Askew and Andrew J. Steel’s artworks give a solid nod to their street art roots. As the final piece of the modem puzzle, the artists have prepared their original designs on a large scale medium of their choice, to be auctioned for charity. All proceeds will go to Forest & Bird. The Orcon Designer Series was printed on the Benefitz A2 Mimaki flatbed UV printer. It is a promotional printer that can print on a whole range of items.

Rhys first ‘worked on the tools’ in our production areas before departing for on his ‘OE’. Returning to New Zealand he eventually made his way back to the company but this time as an account manager. He’s a natural at it and with his ‘Benefitz experience’ he now knows our business inside-out. We talked to Rhys about his pathway with Benefitz and what else gets him excited about the business and life in general... How long have you been at Benefitz? RL: Six years in total. I spent a year in production before going overseas to travel and came back about five years ago to work in account management. I love it! How did you come to join Benefitz? RL: The first time I followed my good mate Blake Douglas to Benefitz – he got me the job as he already worked here. The second time I was working the morning shift at a gym on the Hibiscus Coast and an hour-or-more early morning commute from Takapuna was a bit tough. I obviously knew Dallas from my previous time at Benefitz and also knew that he worked closely with Les Mills. So I asked him to sound them out to see if there was any jobs available closer to home. There wasn’t – but there was an account management position opening up at Benefitz! My old mate Blake Douglas may have also helped again – I got the job!
What are your interests outside of work? RL: Watching all sport. I have retired from any serious participation but I am a great arm-chair supporter. I also got married in recent times and am a proud young father, so family takes up most of my time. Which piece of machinery/technology excites you the most? RL: As most know we have some wonderful state-of-the-art machinery right across our business – big printing, signage, digital, design etc. etc. But right now our web team and our online capabilities are exciting. It is hard to keep up – as new benefits are being developed almost daily! What’s the best place you’ve ever visited in the world and why? RL: Europe – I was lucky enough to do a Contiki and van tour in Europe (in-between my stints at Benefitz) and had a blast. I loved being able to wake up in one country and by lunch time being in a completely different one with different climate, customs and culture. Any advice for budding Account Managers? RL: The more you put in the more you get out. Contact: rhys@benefitz.co.nz
What do you like about the company? RL: The investment that Benefitz puts back into the company – whether that be investing in new technology, furthering employees skills, and/or coming up with new advertising and communication solutions. There is no secret to our success – simply the willingness to keep on investing.
Rhys is one of my favourites!

Benefitz PHOTOHUB
Making personal photographs come alive It is no secret that our world is changing. The way people communicate is moving constantly which is why as a business we need to keep evolving. Investing in new opportunities, investing in people and investing in technology are key strategies for facing this moving landscape.
An exciting newer facet to our business we call ‘Benefitz Photohub’. In this area we make personal photographs come alive. Benefitz Photohub has involved investing in new technology that has resulted in us becoming leaders in the production of personalised products featuring photographs. “We have created a facility that produces a range of products featuring personal photographs,” explains Benefitz Managaing Director Aidan Bennett. “The products include Photobooks, Calendars, Posters, Greeting Cards, Canvas Prints, Mugs and other such items as Mobile Phone Covers and Skins. In this digital world people now take thousands of photos and often they never leave their mobile devices. What we are doing is working with well known wholesalers and retailers to give their customers loads of options to make

these photos come alive, being used for treasured personal momentos or gifts.” Benefitz Photohub mainly draws on existing production areas of the business to produce these items, but has also included the introduction of new machinery added to ensure efficient production. “Our Benefitz JetSX B2 Inkjet Printer was a key ingredient of the mix for the Photohub project. The combination of this machine and our Xerox machinery means we have a powerful personalised printing capacity. We also added a range of finishing equipment including a Perfect Binder, a Hard Case Binder, a UV Coater, a Fujifilm Photo Printer, special shape cutting machinery and guillotines. A totally new area for us has been gifting products which feature treasured photographs. We now have machinery
that produces printed Mugs, Beer Steins and we have also installed the Flatbed Promo Printer (featured in this issue) which enables us to print on virtually any item.” Benefitz Photohub project also includes our large format printing resource to produce Canvas Prints as well as Posters, Wood and Corrugated Iron Prints. We already had the best printing technology for this purpose but have added more automated finishing gear such as a canvas stretching machine imported from Europe.” To complete this new offering our in house web development team also developed state-of-the-art online systems that track these projects right through production to delivery. This has made things very easy for ourselves, and our retail and wholesale partners, to track the progress of every item.

CHANNEL MAGAZINE
Channel
North Shore’s monthly magazine! Back in July 2010, the first issue of Channel magazine was published by Benefitz. Managing Director Aidan Bennett felt the Shore needed a positive, quality monthly magazine that celebrated local people and community, and encouraged people to support local businesses. And that original ethos has remained unchanged. Channel has since topped the six year and 66 issue mark and has become a well-read and respected regular feature of Shore life. It has grown in size and distribution, from an initial 17,000 copies, we now have 25,500 magazines reaching homes and businesses each month on the Shore. From day one there has been a website that goes handin-hand with the magazine. This website has undergone continuos development (by our inhouse Benefitz team) and

GOLF CARDS
Almost three decades of Golf! (Score cards that is)
Benefitz has moved into its 28th year of producing score cards for golf clubs throughout New Zealand. During this time it is estimated we have printed up to 70-80 million score cards. The company first got into producing these score cards back in 1988 when Managing Director Aidan Bennett spotted an opportunity to enhance the quality of the score cards being used by golfers at each club. “I was playing golf one day and was scoring on this shabby card and it dawned on me that score cards could become a powerful advertising vehicle,” explains Aidan. “So I set about designing an attractive generic score card that could be rolled out across a number of clubs. I approached one of the big sponsors of golf back then – an insurer – and they loved the concept. With sponsorship from that company, we rolled the

new full colour Benefitz score cards out across virtually all of the Auckland golf clubs. The concept was then picked up by the sponsor’s network of agents throughout New Zealand and it went nationwide.” By the early ‘90s Benefitz was responsible for the printing of score cards for over 300 golf clubs throughout the country. From Kaitaia in the north to Bluff in the south. “After quite a few years the sponsor decided to pull back from what they were spending and we reverted to printing directly for the clubs,” adds Aidan. “Over the last 20 years we have been essentially printing for the

An average club will use 30,000 to 40,000. Benefitz still prints golf score cards for over 200 clubs from all over the country. The company also works closely as a preferred print partner for DotGolf, a company which has developed an innovative score card system that allows specific details of the individual player to be laser printed at the golf clubs. Benefitz prints most of these cards colour on one side and the laser printing is done on the other side at the clubs.
THE FACTS Benefitz for Golf Score Cards • Producing quality scoring cards for around 200 NZ Golf Clubs and courses. • Project started in 1988. • All cards designed, printed, finished and shipped by Benefitz. • Printed on Benefitz Komori or JetSX B2 Inkjet Presses. • Creased on Benefitz diecutting machinery. • Around 4 million cards produced per annum.

PROJECT PROFILE
We love fun projects! Silverdale Adventure Park is a fantastic new adventure park that has been created north of the Harbour Bridge and our team at Benefitz have done a fantastic job with all the branding and many other elements. The neat thing about the new Silverdale Adventure Park is that it’s what the two guys behind the project are calling their “legacy project”. While it is a business venture, it’s just as much a passion that they are willing to invest in to make it something very special for the community. Barry Larman and Les Osborne, both in their 60’s, are originally from England. Their passion for these types of parks comes from their childhoods that involved seaside amusement parks. There are three stages to the development of the new adventure park which features a great cafe and eatery, called ‘Area51’. Stage one involves a new 600m purpose built ‘Down Hill Luge Track’; a great play area for the younger kids called the ‘Cosmic Playzone’; a 4D ‘Spaceship Simulating Cinema Experience’; and a ‘Tube Slide’. Stage two included the ‘Mini Moon Buggies’; the ‘Shooting Star Vertical Bungee’; the ‘Off-Road Polaris Experience’; a 260 metre head-first ‘Dual Zipline’ a very fancy and sophisticated Flying Fox. Stage three will see the development of the old Auckland Luge tracks and the launch of their Voyager 3 Spaceship (Flying Saucer structure) which is ex Skyline of Rotorua. Voyager 3 will seat 72 people and will be a a great venue for kids

parties, family picnics and corporate events. For Benefitz the project has involved the initial design of the logo and brand which has then been rolled out to be used for a wide range of items that have been designed, manufactured and produced by Benefitz. “This is a project that shows our capability across a diverse spectrum of communication-related items,” says Benefitz MD Aidan Bennett. “Ryan and our creative team did a fantastic job for Barry and Les on the brand and then great work has also been done by the wider Benefitz team on their website, site signage, vehicle signage as well as display and printed items.” Make sure you get along to experience Silverdale Adventure Park and to see the great Benefitz work! Fine Promo at Fine Wine! The strength of the Benefitz offering was on display recently with a range of in-store items produced and installed for a promotion at the impressive Fine Wine Delivery Company super stores at Mt Wellington and Mairangi Bay. The Fine Wine team are great marketers and asked if we could help with their big promo they had coming up. Led by Account Manager Blake Douglas, members of the Benefitz team went to both stores to look at the options and provided advice on the best ways to make an impact with printed images. At that stage all the measurements were taken as well. “Timing for the project was critical,” says Blake Douglas. “The Fine Wine marketing crew created the artwork based on our measurements and specs, from which we printed and installed all items. We managed to install all graphics at both stores in one day which is a real credit to our Benefitz install team.” The major promotion had $50,000 worth of travel up for grabs for a lucky customer. A strong offer that was projected very well with powerful graphics designed inhouse by the Fine Wine Delivery Company. As is demonstrated in the accompanying photos, the combination of all the promo items in-store certainly got the message across to all customers in-store and out. Strong billboards – PVC mesh – were produced and installed on
the outside of the stores using the simple Benefitz tensioned railing system. Floor Decals also made a great impact. Other items included Hanging Banners, Posters, A-frame Inserts; Palight and Corflute prints, Free Standing Strutted Prints and Trolley Inserts. “This project certainly demonstrated our all round capability,” adds Blake Douglas. “To be able to produce all these items cost-effectively, efficiently and then have them installed makes it very easy for the customer. It is also very pleasing when it looks so good and I also understand the promotion went very well.”

RECENT PROJECTS North Harbour Club Hard Cover Book
When it comes to producing books the Benefitz team is up with the best. Probably ahead of the rest. From the production perspective we can produce soft cover books, hard cover books - from start to finish - all in house on our machinery. Print, Bind – the lot! With this book “The First Twenty Years of Excellence” we have showed off our full spectrum of publishing capabilities. Our MD Aidan has had a hand in writing the 200 page book (along with Ian Watson); our senior designer Chelsea Johnston designed the book; and then we printed it on our state-of-the-art digital machinery, then finished it high quality hard case-bound. All done very economically of course! Lake House Arts Website
Lake House Arts were wanting to utilise their website to make things easier on an administration level. The Benefitz Web Development team developed a system that was built off the back of the BWEB website which replaced their previous Microsoft Access CRM system. They are now able to let the website handle the enrolments of the classes and also manage all the communications to its members. This is a great example to show the flexibility of BWEB and that it can be more than a Content Management System. Some great customisation here for Lake House Arts by our web development team! With this particular project we were asked to provide a solution for printing directly onto 500 wooden lids. The print was to be simple and effective and give the appearance of a ‘copper’ logo. It didn’t take director Dallas Bennett long to find the perfect solution within our wide array of print machinery – on our little Mimaki Flatbed Digital Printer that can print on just about anything! Rio comes to AUT Millennium! Benefitz is proud to be a supplier of design, printing, display and signage services to the wonderful AUT Millennium community and performance sport facility on the North Shore. Prior to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) we were provided with a challenge by their marketing team. They wanted us to come up with creative to give the facility a colourful look that resonated with the Rio Olympics. We had to work around the tight Olympic branding guidelines. The AUT Millennium crew were thrilled with what the Benefitz creative team came up with. The striking colourful ‘Rio-themed’ look featuring graphics of athletes was then rolled out throughout AUT Millennium – including floor graphics, medal tally boards, window graphics and a large cut-out figure depicting Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue. All the items were produced and installed by Benefitz and the finished look was very special, as is demonstrated in these photos. A very economical way to create a theme!

– We love to play! As you will have discovered in these pages, Benefitz places a strong emphasis on playing its part in the community. Over the past couple of years this has extended to assisting with the development of a wonderful new all-ages and abilities playground in Takapuna. Back in 2014 Benefitz Managing Director Aidan Bennett, a resident of Takapuna, discovered a desire by local couple Chris and Jackie Reeve to see a playground built in Takapuna. “I was walking the dogs along Takapuna Beach and discovered a handwritten poster on the Reeve’s fence seeking support for their initiative,” explains Aidan. “So I made contact with them and actually discovered that they were willing to underwrite the cost of the playground and their plans were wonderful. They didn’t want just a playground they wanted a world class playground. So I decided to help.” Aidan then got the Benefitz published community magazine Channel behind the project by doing a cover feature on the Reeve’s desire and gesture. Benefitz also got involved helping with general promo material. “The project got legs really because How good of the Reeve’s is Taka’s new commitment to playground! guarantee the funding, so a few of

It was a thrill to see it completed and officially opened recently. It will be a real asset to the community for decades ahead.” Benefitz have also assisted with graphic design, printing, signage and have also produced the plaques that acknowledge those who have given generously to the project.

BENEFITZ IN THE COMMUNITY
We love Rugby! Benefitz is well known for its community involvement and the companies sponsorship of North Harbour Rugby is one of its most enduring relationships. Benefitz has been one of the key Union sponsors and the ‘collar sponsor’ of the premier team for over 15 years. “I am a great believer that if you get involved then it’s for the long haul,” explains Benefitz Managing Director Aidan Bennett. “There is so much that’s good about what North Harbour Rugby does for our region and they fully deserve the support of the business community. It’s true that it has been a rocky ride in terms of results at the elite level, but we are

involved for reasons that go a lot deeper than that. Just sit back for a minute and think of what rugby does for the region from the little ones playing through to the elite level. It is only good things and we are hugely proud to be playing our part as long-term supporters and sponsors.” In addition to sponsoring the union, Benefitz also provides a range of services to Harbour Rugby. We have built and we maintain their very comprehensive website and also provide design, printing, display and signage services. www.harbourrugby.co.nz
