“I’m pleased with the performance. We dominated possession without being able to breakdown a very strong defensive unit. “We had some pleasing individual performances as well with Charl Compaan having to do a job for us at centre back following an injury we picked up during the week and Sione Fa’apoi also did very well,” he said. East Coast Bay former All Whites midfielder now coach David Mulligan will be very happy with the start his team made by beating Eastern Suburbs AFC 3-0 at Madill’s Farm. Judd Baker scored twice and Liam Anderson once to hand East Coast Bays three handy away points. Three Kings United lost 2-1 at home to Onehunga Sports with Izak Papa and Sean Lovemore goals cancelling out an Allan Pearce strike on the hour mark. The major upset of the day saw Hamilton Wanderers overcome Birkenhead United 1-0 at Shepherd’s Park in Beach Haven. David Smith was the hero for Hamilton Wanderers scoring the winner just after the hour mark. It was a big struggle for newly promoted Manurewa AFC who lost 4-2 to Bay Olympic. With the scores level 1-1 at the interval with Soheb Sheik scoring for the home team and Sander Waterland the away, Bay Olympic stepped up the pressure in the second half with further goals for James Pritchett, Al Taaf Sahib and Nick Hindson.
