Our library is a multipurpose space. We are so lucky to have multiple rooms to allow many different activities and events to be hosted at the same time. Our reading rooms provide a comfortable environment for students to read quietly; every English and ESOL class has a booked time to come and enjoy reading on the cushions and armchairs. The rooms are also used as practice spaces for Korean and Chinese nights, hosting visiting authors, Book Club, Rainbow Rangi, and other meetings during the year. There are three areas that teachers can book for students to use the library resources for research. At other times, our Year 13 students utilise these spaces during their study periods and, out of class time, there are many students who like to do their homework or tutoring here. The silent study room is the only totally quiet room in the school and both students and teachers value this space as a place to work and study while being able to totally focus on their work. The scholarship room is for collaborative learning; our senior students meet here to study and work together. They particularly like being able to use the whiteboards to do complex maths problems.
Additionally, the library space can be transformed into one big open space when we push the shelves out of the way, such as when we hosted the North Shore Readers Cup competition this year. This flexibility allows us to make the library a place that is important to everyone—the heart of the school. None of this would be possible without the amazing librarians who work to make the library welcoming and inclusive. Thank you to all our 70 student librarians and four adult librarians for your commitment to providing a fabulous library.
