Not only is Chinese Night a long-standing tradition at our college, but it has also continually received a great reception from students and members of the community from all over Auckland. This year, held on the night of Thursday July 8th, Chinese Night was once again a successful night of celebration and culture. It was a stage for Rangitoto College’s students from all year levels, ethnicities, and backgrounds to showcase amazing traditional and modern Chinese performances, including, but not limited to, lion dance, fan dance, bands, singing and diabolo. A team of very hard-working student volunteers also participated in running the show. We would like to also thank Kāhui Ako for attending our dressrehearsal and supporting the success of the night.

The event itself also celebrates, cherishes, and brings light to the dedication and effort put into the show by the many students who participated; Chinese Night would not have been hugely successful this year if it wasn’t for their help.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the performers for your dedication to the event and representing us with your amazing talents; all the volunteers for your hard work and commitment; and to the parents, teachers and audience who supported and attended Chinese Night this year.

The preparation of Chinese Night primarily involves organising student volunteers and performers, along with finding sponsors and vendors to support our event. The opportunities offered to student volunteers include traditional or progressive performances, or roles as the onstage host through audition. Event helpers such as backstage helpers and ticket collectors are also selected from volunteers; all participants are Rangitoto College student volunteers who have a passion for this iconic cultural event that symbolises the cultural diversity of our school. The event is led and organised by the Chinese Night Committee, whose supporting teachers are Ms Chang and Miss Wang.

Though the organisation of an event of this scale requires a lot of hard work, it is always a pleasure to prepare and always one of the highlights of the year for many students. We look forward to presenting an even more memorable Chinese Night next year!
