The team is now preparing for the 49th New Zealand Secondary School track and field and 46th Road Race Championships will be going ahead in December this year.
What a year 2021 has been! No doubt one of our greatest medal hauls in recent years. A special thanks to all the parents who have put countless hours of support. Without this support our students would not be able to attain the amazing results they do. Also, a massive thanks to our Teacher in Charge, Jenny McLean, who has been provided much needed assistance in operations behind the scenes as well as support for our students.
This year, badminton has remained overwhelmingly popular among students across Rangitoto College, with eight teams representing Rangitoto College at the North Harbour Secondary School League for 2021. In the competitive grade, the Rangitoto A Girls team won all their ties to come first place, and the Rangitoto A1 Boys lost in a close tie to come third in their division, along with the Rangitoto A2 Boys coming fourth. In B grade, the Rangitoto B1 Girls took first place along with the B Grade Boys all doing very well in their respective divisions. The students’ sports administrator, SarahJane Beck, has helped them all throughout the year even though some events were evidently cancelled. Some of our players in both the Rangitoto Girls and Boys A teams feature in the New Zealand Junior National Squads: Shaunna Li, Isaac Chan, and Nanna Siegemund. One of our Rangitoto A Girls players, Shaunna Li, had success at the New Zealand National Championships, winning the women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles titles respectively.
Overall, our Rangitoto College students had a very successful and enjoyable year in badminton, both in and out of school, and we look forward to another great year in 2022 and growing badminton at Rangitoto College.
