Because you can’t predict what’s ahead... The all-new innovative Trailparts™ SE brake control system The lack of a flowing, substantial roading network in New Zealand means the driving environment often involves steep, winding, narrow – and sometimes – gravel roads, is unique. And so is the Kiwi way of doing things. The dedication to boating, driving holidays and DIY means we are often towing trailers with varying loads on these roads as well. So trailer solutions from overseas don’t always meet our needs here. Our Trailparts™ range is known for its high quality and innovative approach to trailer running gear, epitomized now in the all-new Trailparts™ SE patented* trailer brake control system for GVM’s of up to 3500kg.
It looks simple, because it is! The Trailparts™ SE controller makes it possible for any suitable tow vehicle** to tow a trailer fitted with an SE module without any wiring needed with the tow vehicle - and the key word here is ANY. The key benefits delivered are; • They avoid ALL of the costly hard-wiring normally associated with in-cab brake controllers. No direct power feed is required from the tow vehicle’s battery. • Tow SE equipped trailers with electric brakes AND electric/hydraulic actuators***. • Easily switch the in-cab controller between tow vehicles. It’s fast and easy to legally tow trailers up to 3500kg GVM with any suitable vehicle. • Tow with ANY 12v or 24v vehicle without costly reducers being required in the electrical system, and eliminate the risk of over-voltage damage commonly inflicted on braking systems of this type. The entire Trailparts™ SE brake control system is multi-voltage capable. • Elimination of ANY difficulty or interference associated with vehicle wiring systems, such as complicated CANbus and Fibre Optics, that are becoming more and more challenging to work with when equipping tow vehicles to be able to tow trailers over 2500kg. • Operates through ANY standard trailer electrical plug, whether 7 pin flat, 7 pin round, or 12 pin flat – all are capable of operating these controllers. Any vehicle set up and wired for towing can tow with an SE controller. • They deliver braking when travelling in reverse.

• Cost Effective – SE controllers are very easy to fit, and don’t require technical expertise.
• Even easier – they can be used with any vehicle wiring system.
• Performance – The SE controller has 20 graduations for load settings, and a sensitivity adjustment, making performance characteristics easily matched to any load type, including horses and livestock.
• Easy for customers – they don’t incur unpleasant extra costs and time to install an in-cab brake controller. • Easy to Hire – Simply connect the trailer and plug in the SE controller!

What you need to know... The Trailparts™ SE brake control system is made up of three parts; the In-vehicle Controller, the On-trailer Module, and the Breakaway kit.

In-vehicle SE controller This plugs into a standard vehicle power socket, but is multi-voltage capable, and can therefore be used in any suitable tow vehicle. It communicates with the on-trailer SE Module via encoded digital wireless technology, and includes the functions required by law of gain control adjustability and an emergency override, but adds a digital brake performance readout, sensitivity adjustment, and an audible warning for fault alerts.
2 On-trailer SE Module This is mounted on the trailer, parallel with the direction of travel. It houses a microprocessor and accelerometer, which senses the rate that the stop is occurring, and applies more or less braking to the trailer wheels accordingly. It is multi-voltage capable, its power source being the battery supplied as part of the breakaway kit, right. It is housed in an IP67 rated alloy enclosure, with the internal components fully encased in resin for shock and water ingress protection, which makes them suitable for exposed mounting.

Breakaway Kit The breakaway kit ensures power is applied to the trailer brakes in the event of a tow vehicle separation. However, in the case of the SE module, power to drive it is drawn directly from the breakaway battery. The battery in turn is trickle charged by drawing power from the trailer tail lamp circuit, which means that the towing vehicle must have its lights on when towing with an SE controller.

230mm rotor versions of the Trailparts™ Patriot brakes are designed to be used with standard and current 1500kg and 1750kg stub axles and bearings. Caliper mount yokes used are compatible with commonly used 225mm diameter rotors/brake combinations from other suppliers, giving a seamless and easy transition to high performance brakes. It also means retro-fitting performance brakes becomes easy and helps lower inventory costs.
Trailparts™ Patriot 290mm rotors are used on an all-new 2500kg capable stub axle designed in house using CAD to ensure strength and to utilize commonly available bearings and seals. The 290mm rotors deliver truly outstanding braking performance, the increased piston/pad area of the Patriot caliper coming into its own on the increased diameter rotor. A degree of compatibility with Trojan™ 275mm rotor/ brake combinations is also achieved, where an adaptor kit is supplied when fitting to their 2000kg stub axles.

Folding Hydraulic Brake Lever
The Trailparts™ folding handbrake lever is a small but significant addition to our range. It’s another example of the way we don’t just accept the status quo, and look for improved ways of doing things. Other folding levers do exist, but have a reputation for breaking easily. Our solution is a precision cast steel unit with a handle that engages on a sliding keyway. Increasing customer demand for ready-tofit axle solutions has led to the investment in tooling and infrastructure for Trailparts™ beam axles to be manufactured in house, and offered to customers as a core Trailparts™ service. A wide range of options are available, with straight, gullwing and dropper axles in hot dipped galvanizing or Duragalv™ (or similar) available. Any axle using Trailparts™ Axle Components can be ordered, and having an axle delivered that is accurately manufactured and fully assembled is ideal for trailer builders who don’t build a volume of axles large enough to justify their own tooling and fixtures to ensure accuracy. And they carry the Trailparts™ 18 month warranty.
