Also I find his face really fun and interesting to draw. Although for a while I couldn't’t think of what to depict him as. I had an idea of maybe a mysterious sorcerer, and that morphed into Merlin and the Invincibles team of 2003/04 as the knights of the round table.

More roughs: I tried a few different versions of this idea - moving the players and Wenger around in different positions before I found the composition that I was happy with. I’m also having to think about the balance of the double page spread bearing in mind where the text will sit.

ALAN SHEREAR LEADER OF ‘THE TOON ARMY’ Alan Shearer is the Premier Leagues’ all time leading goal scorer so I felt like I couldn't leave him out of my proposed book. I haven't been able to think of a great connection to a legend or fairy tale character. My only idea was to depict the ‘toon army’ (the Newcastle fans) as an actual army charging on horseback. I had to work in shearer’s trademark, one arm raised, celebration into my illustration.
