OUIL505 ROUGHS & DEVELOPMENT I've been working on generating character ideas for my book – I’m trying to make loads of roughs, keeping drawing to help work through my ideas. Some characters are coming really quickly and working well, others will need more work and I’m struggling to think of links between the players and the fair-tale characters. I'm still revising which players are going in the book and the order in which to put them.
SIR ALEX THE DRAGON I started by doing portraits of the subject to try and get familiar with their face. Once I was happy that I had something of a likeness for Sir Alex I then worked out how to caricaturise him. Because of his fiery temper I had the idea to draw Sir Alex as a dragon.

I’m really happy with the concept of his rough. I also think the way I’ve combined the shape of the coat with the tail and feet of a dragon is particularly effective. In the final illustration I’ll use the tail wrapped round the trophies – like a dragon protecting its gold.
DAVID BECKHAM RAPUNZEL David Beckham was known for his many hairstyles. So for my illustration I wanted to exaggerate his golden locks, inspired by Disney's tangled I have his hair whipping after the ball curling it into the net.
THIERRY HENRY I’m happy with this caricature of Thierry Henry and think I’ve done some good roughs. But I’m not sure what legend or fairy tale character I’m portraying him as. I need to do look back at my research into fairytales and think what links I can make to Henry’s personality or physical attributes.
