Software for packaging Induction
We did an induction in software for packaging, so that we would know how to make a box. This will help make the presentation of our work look more professional. You can find nets for loads of different boxes online. The box we made in the session was a jack in the box style net. • • •
start with an A3 page make a rectangle coving hole page/artboard select the rectangle - go to object - path - split into grid

double-click on the layer and select template - this locks the layer, and means the lines don't print. create a new layer for net make a 70x70mm square in center hold alt+shift and drag the square to create more squares or use object transform 70mm or -70mm create copies of the square - this way ensures the square is being moves precisely.

create tabs for the net - 70x15mm curve edges by dragging the corners in duplicate and reflect to add more tabs use reflect tool (O)

for printing it might be helpful to create an outline to cut out turn the net made so far into guides create a copy of guide lines - put on a new layer on original layer use pathfinder (unite) to make it all one shape

reduce opacity of guide layer click stroke and select dashed line get rid of fill colour on both layers (ready for artwork/design to be put on the net) select artboard using the artboard tool rename artboard 1 as 'inside of box' duplicate artboard by dragging across - rename copied artboard as 'outside of box'

be aware of printing - long edge/short edge as the nets need to line up

Fold guides 2 - you can use fold guides outside of the net (like crop marks)

create an artwork layer import the artwork and make it overlap edges the of the net to allow for errors in cutting in the dropdown menu for each layer you can deselect the net and guides for the outside and inside of the box - so that you don't print the dashed fold lines on the outside - this then avoids misalignment when printing
