The Mirador Apartments upturns the typical courtyard to frame the surrounding context, nine clusters of apartments arranged around an elevated central opening. Formal stacking results in hard interior boundaries between the unit clusters while the envelope becomes an outwardly facing relief. The circulation void carves through each cluster, ostensibly acting as a connecter piece, yet the reality of the connection is visual - a series of glimpses, down hallways and into open doors. At every scale, the building is at once intensely private and a connecting network of framed fragments of individual lives.
