01 Assos Observation Structure

Çuhadaroğlu Aluminium Student Project Competition| Fall 2015 Location: Ahmetçe, Çanakkale, Turkey Team: Bengüsu İbiş, Ela Saruhan, Merve Kavas

According to the subject of the competition, observation structure was designed within the area that each team selected individually upon the observed subject/s by considering all enviromental characteristics of that site. Architectural program of the structure also was decided by the competitiors to the extent of the issue of observation, and scenario.

Assos The project area is located in the Ahmetçe Village, 75 km from Canakkale, is 14 km from the Ayvacık. There are 5 km from the sea. Altitude is the height of 500 meters. The village is set very rough and rocky ground. 01.Why Assos was selected? With historical perspective ... // Assos coastal bays feature has been suspended since the past stop seafarers are protected from adverse winds. The land is thought to be important climatically secure the election. // Plato and Aristotle has lived for three years in Assos, where they are given training in a school of philosophy; the past is an indication that the area is used as a science center. By having the appropriate physical conditions for observation ... // The height of the climate change curve Area examine the sky that reaches an altitude of movement was observed during the field trip. // Examining the topography of the animals natural habitat surrounded by trees, thanks to its rich variety of plants to allow the examination of plant and invertebrate life underground, it has enabled the determination of the project's architectural program. // Structure requirements in the Kaz Mountains National Park, close to the examination center to serve the personal interests of science and is intended to be parallel in order to meet the project.

SITE PLAN

TOTAL AREA: 690qm

02. On the concept of observation structure... Observation structure= observer structure + observed structure In the Kaz Mountains scale, observer ; in building scale , observed .. 'Observation' concept / observe action is a concept-action and observed visually in new hosts. In line with this observation structure and eye structure, the structure can be observed as well. On the location and value of the selected project area to be observed as climatic conditions. Proposed design factor is the dream of building of dominant and passive observation. 03. What are our design approach? Function relations with altitude ... // with the site characteristics of the needs of the architecture program that allows us to be in the level relationship of the program, it was decided to settlements in the land. Observing the sky and climatic changes in volume, arranged at the highest point of the area; If the unit is interested in jeans with botanical close to the soil and subsoil invertebrates are viewing the unit's observation point located under the ground are preferred. The unit will identify the login welcome, cafeteria and see the service function, containing wet was deemed appropriate. Tourism is an important source of income for Assos. With the consideration of the coastal hostels, motels and room rental system in the village, accomodation function has not addedto the architectural program. Facilitate the construction methods with a single prototype ... // Ease of application with the practicality of pre-engineered systems, // Is a design flexibility to adapt to a very sloping terrain, // Steel structure with the least harmful to the environment with the use of recyclable materials and is targeted to the choice of the most lightweight design. 04. What is the design of the outlet? It is intertwined with them the way to observe the natural world has set off believing now. Many live in houses made of tree branches and tree area outlet turbans project, level vertical and horizontal positioning of the functions required to establish an integrated relationship with nature has adopted its own purposes. That the area of the observation area and building strong relationships with its activities in this area ... // Area in various plant families and there is a natural physical environment in which live animals, villages and formed a land settled their border without distant sky, and as a result of the acquisition of high-suited to study climatic events has been determined that an observation area in its own chosen field. The philosophy of this nature observation areas to be proposed in this direction, the minimum damage and fullness; if and only if it is decided to be a tool to be used to make observations.

05.Prototype design // Volumes of shrinking functional prototype observation programs, while expanding capacity in laboratories for research and development functions are located. // Vertical circulation in the lab associated with each prototype. Each serves a different observations // prototype and accordingly shaped floor plans.

ELEVATIONS

Circulation.. // In order to improve accessibility with an observation deck driveway entrance unit it is connected with the same quota. This way, the tower continues to serve as the second prototype in parallel with vertical connecting to down. // The work done in the unit / to be observed by the people of research to ensure that clear, prototypes are designed out of circulation in the open. Circulation in the core of the prototype structure of the eye also intersect in a transparent manner to ensure the general circulation within the structure is also observed.

This project designed by Yalın Architectural Design for “Bornova Municipality Building and Environmental Design Competition” held by İzmir Bornova Municipality as a national competition. During my summer internship at Yalın Architectural Design for two months, i was part of the whole process and took charge in analysis of Bornova and İzmir, physical model making during the process. At the submission phase of the project, i was assigned for drawing and visualizing the sustainability diagram and preparing the architectural report of the project. // According to the master plan, that Bornova Municipality determined already , there is 20.000sqm total area for enviromental design including 3.000spm footprint for Municipality Building itself.

Architectural report : http://issuu.com/yalinmimarlik/docs/bornova_belediyesi_hizmet_binasi

The city perception in İzmir is different from other Aeagean and Mediterrian cities. In Izmir space which is multifaceted and interchangeable. That unique urban life style in the city is from other cities. From this point of view, proposed design is based on being in İzmir and i its urban life.

Design approach for immediate environment of the site In addition to the design of the given building block, new ideas which require small interve immediate environment are derived to strenghten the proposed square of the Municipalit scales, consists of landscape regulations of different levels from 0 to 80cm. Moreover, Rou going through Gediz Street and Süvari Street and Route 2 , more likely a urban route, conn Viaduct-Fevzi Çakmak Street and Cumhuriyet Square are other proposals to promote the b life.

Design approach for the site and the building That design is based on a relationship of open space heaps ,that have different characteris whole, and municipality building designed similarly. At the end, it also aims to be a follow mentioned. The Municipality Building proposes a system like its square which is informal, i relationships of these integral pieces. Volumes and sizes of these 6 pieces shaped accordin Thus, as an outcome, it became a building that there is no perfect distinction between out to outside from place to place , and which has interspaces and alleys

r there is unique usage of urban the reason why Izmir is dierent its streets and also articulated to

entions for Bornova and its ty. These ideas ,varing in dierent ute 1 , more likely a recreation route, necting with Mustafa Kemal Streetbuilding block design and the street

stics and that will constitute a w-up of outdoor life in Ä°zmir that integral and has open space ng to the municipality program. tdoor and indoor which leads user

Sustainability From the beginning, sustainability is an issue that aimed to integrate with the design and tried to make a natural essence of the structure rather than artiďŹ cial addition. Designing a high-tech building is not the aim, on the contrary, we proposed fundamental systems that will work by itself as long as the building exist. Also these are the systems that if they are removed from the design, the building could be deďŹ cient. Topics such as eďŹƒcient usage of water, decreasing the energy consumption to minimum level derived from fossil fuels and spaces considering human health are some of the basis that regarded.

CAC|

KARAKÖY CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER

The building typology of design for CAC is based on two squares , connecting Mumhane Street and Kemankes Street whereas acting as public plaza that not only leading people into the building but also being used as a passage. Ground floor is designed as a social hub with the most circulative Temporary Gallery V, cafe, atelier and museum shop. Circulation system of the CAC is seperated into two at the first floor, both of the them end at the same point after visiting the whole museum without missing any gallery. As an interior concept, while configuring the galleries, visual connection between them was the main priority. Not only with the voids but also with the interior large windows, it is aimed to increase interest for other galleries while visiting one of them. Noticeability as a landmark, at the silhouette of Karaköy preferred rather than being modest. For this purpose, red is selected as a vivid and modern color while balancing it with grey. Red is also used ,mostly, to refer galleries at the facade except for Gallery I covered with grey. Shortly,CAC is trying to create new relations with existing conditions ith an aim of being social gathering space.

Each route brings the visitor to the starting point at the end of the tour after leading through all galleries. Through the routes, the voids between the galleries give hints about other galleries by visual connection in between. It is assumed that circulation will be dense at G5-Temporary Gallery. Architectural Design Studio 4 | Spring 2013 Location:Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP IN ARCHITECTURE Instructor: Prof. Arda Inceoğlu|Assistant : Cevdet Erek & Şebnem Soher

This project was an outcome of the “long distance relationship in architecture studio” held during the Architectural Design Studio 4. At this studio, each two student studied at different cities all around the world like London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, New York, Rio de Janeiro... At the first phase, pairs searched their city ,that they have never been, based on sources such as books, movies and street view images... At the second phase, pairs analized their pre-selected building block by tutors within the city context according to its architectural and functional character. At the third phase, each student redesigned and added a new architectural function to that building block.
