Parker as Community Engagement Officer

Warwickshire Vision Support is delighted to introduce Martyn Parker, the charity’s Community Engagement Officer.

Martyn’s role is to raise the profile of the charity throughout the county, working with local businesses, community groups and schools to increase awareness of people living with sight loss, and how we can all help create more inclusive communities.

“My role involves visiting groups to help them understand the issues blind and visually impaired people face,” said Martyn.

“It is important that businesses understand their partially sighted customers and staff. I can provide advice and guidance to allow your business to serve this group of people more effectively.”

Warwickshire Vision is the trading name of Warwickshire Association For The Blind. Established as a grass roots organisation in 1911, today it is a small charity supporting over 3,500 visually impaired people throughout the county. They aim to ensure that people who are blind or partially sighted are active, supported, included, informed, connected and are able to live independent lives.

Martyn can provide practical advice to businesses on dealing with visually impaired customers, making premises and services more accessible, supporting visually impaired employees, and a range of other issues to make your business more inclusive and positive about disability.

Disabled consumers have significant spending power; in the UK the “Purple Pound” spent by over 14 million disabled customers is estimated at over £250 billion annually. So, creating a truly inclusive and accessible business has a positive income benefit as well as aligning with the requirements of the Equalities Act 2010.
