Dear Member,

It’s our AGM & Annual Business & Economic Conference on November 10th and the Chamber team is looking forward to seeing everyone there. We have a fantastic line up of panel discussions, speakers, and I’m genuinely excited to hear Clive Myrie’s keynote address.

At last year’s conference we announced our focus on three main themes –Digitalisation, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Net Zero. We’ve got a lot to update you on.

Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has started an ambitious programme to become one of the most digital Chamber’s in the UK, and initial project planning sessions have shown what a vast task this will be as it impacts every part of our business – from the way we manage our staff and backoffice functions, support our members, lobby on the big issues and train our employees. We also recently delivered an excellent event at WMG – University of Warwick on how businesses embrace AI – personally I think there’s more to be excited that worried about.

We’ve also started to design a new Net Zero business support offer that we will launch early in 2024. We were joined by 60 of our Influence Partners and Engage Members at the Telegraph Hotel Coventry to exchange ideas, look at some best practice and get our members views on what a new offer should include. It was incredible to hear about how much great work is already taking place and I’m determined our new support offer will open up a lot of new trading opportunities for our members as well.

To back up our own governance review, our board member Fleur Sexton DL will be leading a small group of business leaders to unpick what we need to do to support businesses with their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda and how we, as a Chamber, become the best business we can to support these issues. This is an area of work that is very close to my heart, so I want to make sure we can truly say we are exemplars in EDI. Beyond the conference, we’re also very excited to announce a trio of new Business Support programmes for Stratford District-based business focused on Retail, Export, and Growth. These are the first of a new wave of government funded programmes, through UK Shared Prosperity Funding, and we’re pleased to be working with the excellent team at Stratford-on-Avon District Council to deliver them.

Our AGM on November 10th will start 4 weeks of governance changes for the Chamber. At the AGM, we will welcome 4 new Non-Executive Directors onto our board. We will also be saying goodbye to some incredibly generous and dedicated board members in Trish Willets, Karen Shuter and Paul Sullivan. Paul has been a superb supporter of the Chamber with over 25 years on the board and an unbeatable knowledge of the manufacturing sector, the powerhouse that is Trish Willets is now focusing on national work with the British Business Improvement District team, and whilst Karen is stepping down from the board –she will still remain as Chair of our Rugby Branch. These changes will be completed at our Board Meeting in early December when Tom Mongan will officially hand over the reins to our incoming President and Chair, Steve Harcourt of Prime Accountants Group.

A special thanks has to be given to our outgoing President and Chair, Tom Mongan. Tom has been a phenomenal president in a very difficult time covering the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns and Brexit. His reputation as a ‘Champion of Manufacturers’ is carried across the UK and Tom will be continuing to campaign for local manufacturers as an Ambassador for the Chamber.

Finally, as this is our last edition of C&W in Business magazine of 2023, can I be the first to say - ‘Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & a prosperous New Year”! Thank you for your support in 2023 and we look forward to working with you all in 2024!
