Tilly’s project will be to research and write about the lives and legacies of four young legal graduates who took on the establishment to allow women to become lawyers in the early 20th Century in the landmark case of The Law Society v Bebb (1913).

Gwyneth Bebb, Karin Costello, Maud Croft and Lucy Nettlefold were four pioneering women whose bravery in taking this case promoted great publicity and eventually led to legislation allowing women to become lawyers. They are sometimes referred to as the Bebb Quartet. Bebb Quartet | legalwomen.org.uk.
