STUDENTS AT THE HEART OF BUSINESS
Students are at the heart of everything we do at Liverpool John Moores University. This commitment extends to all our students - past, present, and future, who we recognise as the beating heart of our city and who can be found across every industry and in every community.
Employers are an essential ingredient to the success of our university, which is why we are committed to working in partnership with the Chambers of Commerce and businesses across the Liverpool City Region and beyond. The value of our employers in contributing to the learning path of each of our students is an essential step in their career journey and we value the opportunities our employers present to them through internships and placements. Projects such as LJMU Graduate Futures and our Discovery Internships are essential in uniting SMEs with our offer and supporting student and graduate success. By working in collaboration with businesses, we are building a stronger, brighter, and more inclusive economy for us all.
In the past year we have worked with numerous businesses within the Liverpool City Region, bringing many extracurricular internships and curriculumbased placements to our students. Through harnessing EU funding, LJMU Graduate Futures has so far generated over 80 new vacancies in support of business growth and supported over 800 students and graduates in accessing our bespoke employability training. Feedback from our most recent cohort of Discovery Interns also indicates high levels of satisfaction in hosting an intern and the value that students have brought to a business, with comments such as:
‘The Interns we hosted were fantastic and added a lot of value within both the HR and Environment Team during their time with us.’
Student feedback also included:
‘I learned new skills, met good people, got more experience in working in a fast-paced environment and learned what it’s like to operate in a business environment.’
We know the positive impact that these experiences have on employability skills, motivation in education and career decision-making. Therefore, LJMU remains committed to connecting students to businesses offering real-world experiences. We are excited to see what the challenges of the next year bring.
