Use this catalogue to ‘design’ your project and get in touch with us by email or telephone. If you can it is always best to visit us (please make an appointment). Our studio is conveniently located in the west side of Amsterdam.
A combination of skilled hand work and great equipment makes us competitive with runs of one to one thousand copies.
Our typical lead time is 1 month but this varies according to the nature of the work, the volume and special circumstances. Do not hesitate to ask if you have special requirements!

Notebooks We can produce a variety of styles of notebooks, journals, diaries, guest books, etc. Finishing options further down also apply to these.
PAMPHLET
QUARTER CLOTH
A simple style for thin and light notebooks with decorative paper covers. Can be machine-stitched (singersewn), exposed or hidden, or pamphlet stitched (3, 5, 7 stitches) for a more handmade look.
With the addition of a cloth spine, this style is perfect for a notebook with a larger number of pages while remaining simple and flexible.
MOLESKINE A classic style with thin boards, elastic and rounded corners.
LAY-FLAT When a book is required to open flat, and remain flat (ex: exhibition).
Portfolios These are solutions for the presentation of content which must be taken in and out of the binding, or likely to evolve
SCREW POSTS - EXPOSED
SCREW POSTS - HIDDEN This can be made without a spine which is makes it possible to alter the capacity simply by changing the size of the screws. An excellent solution for sample books.

Menu holders We produce menu holders, bill presenters and the like in a variety of styles for hotels and restaurants

BILL PRESENTER
We can cover your menus in any materials, colours and adorn them with your logos and artworks.
In this construction the menu is secured with screw posts between the back board and a strip. The screws are visible inside and at the back.
In this more refined style, the screws are entirely hidden.
We can also build pockets to your requirements.
Boxes We produce all the regular styles of book boxes but also boxes for objects. Boxes can be covered in any material and can be personalized with foil blocking.

A very strong construction that protects the book not only from scratches, dents, etc but also from the light and the dust.
Keeps the spine exposed - The entry can be square or rounded to match the book.
This is a box for a small recorder covered in paper and decorated with a foiled bird figure.
Materials Here is a small selection of materials that we can use to cover your books, boxes and portfolios.
Materials can be used across the whole binding or in combination with others. For example a binding with leather spine and paper on the boards is called a quarter leather binding with paper sides.

The king of bookbinding materials, comes in a wide variety of colours and finishes. For lower budgets imitation or recycled leather can be an option.
There is regular bookcloth, which has a natural feel, then there is Buckram which has an acrylic coating and is therefore water resistant. We can also use offcuts from clothes, uphostery fabrics, etc.
We always have a variety of plain and decorative papers in stock.
If your project requires a material that isn’t specifically designed for bookbinding, we are happy to consider it. In the past we have worked with cork (picture), sandpaper, wood and stone veneer, plastics, etc.
Foil stamping We can print your artwork, logos or lettering onto paper, leather, bookcloth and many other materials.

TYPE SET LETTERING For this process we use our font collection (see above). This was blocked using Gill Sans 18 Pt, with black and gold foils.

ARTWORK BASED BLOCKING Using bespoke dies gives total freedom to use any font, any design (handwriting, logos, etc). Blocking dies are cheaper than most people think, and can be used over and over again.

The most commonly used colours are gold, silver, black and white and a few other colours that we have in stock. However there are hundreds of others that we can order for you.
This is an example of and artwork debossed only (no foil), a beautifully subtle effect.

As an alternative to our materials, your books could be covered with printed paper, giving you complete freedom in terms of design.

This is common for menu holders that have to survive rough treatments !
Pricing Our prices vary considerably according to size, material and quantity, which is why we do not have a pricelist for bookbinding services. If you need a price, talk to us and we’ll be very happy to provide you with a (free) estimate. Here is an example to give you a rough idea.
We typically require 50% deposit payment before work commencement and balance upon completion, which can be paid by bank transfer, paypal or cash/credit card in our studio. 21% VAT will be added to all prices. (This doesn’t apply to the online shop where VAT is built into the prices).
SKETCH BOOK This book was designed by a young Londoner as a present for his loved one. The inside is a combination of printed material and blank pages for writing and the outside is a quarter leather binding with printed sides. The book is hand-sewn, has decorative endpapers, a ribbon marker and foil blocking in silver. It came to a total of €140 +VAT.
