I really like the geometric layout of this piece, it has an almost collage feel to it due to all the sharp edges. The flat bold colours contrast strongly with the nearly all white figure of a man making it really eye catching, the white figure also draws attention to the deep black figure at the top due to the complete contrast between black and white.
The first thing that struck me about this design is the absolute simplicity of the drawing, not in a bad way, but because of the way it sits in contrast to the well structured layout of the image and the well matched colours.
This one also has a vibe of collage about it, that and a very strong Picasso vibe, the pastel colours blend well with the grainy paper texture of the background, the composition of shapes is very well structured and the type placement is eye catching.

This set of covers is brilliantly simple, the massive whitespace and bold black text work so well together and frame the simple yet effective illustrations very well.
I love this covers use of a strong single colour, it breathes life into the black and white elements and highlights them, the illustration is interesting and the eye catching and powerful use of single colour + Black and white is very striking.
Although I find the type a bit bizarre in placement, the illustrated horse is beautiful, it sits halfway between silhouette and detail, the completely black mane and face offset the detailed patterns covering the body, the very light use of that reddy orange is very powerful too.

The silhouette design layed over the tame peach colour is very powerful, the layout is really well considered and the curly calligraphy lettering sits well in the piece.
This piece is very simplistic, in a good way, the plain symbol like chair sitting on its own in the sea of pale blue is very striking and the aged appearance of the paper adds a nice sense of tactile appeal.
Like the last piece, the inverted silhouette sitting alone in a deep wall of blue makes this very powerful, it makes the single image seem very important to whatever the content is.
Final Cover designs
Conclusion/ I struggled to fully find a workflow to develop a strong idea for this project, most likely because I treated it completely Graphic Design project rather than including elements of fine art and experimentation. That aside, I feel I tempered my initial ideas into a strong final piece of work, I feel it captures the simple and symbolic style of some of the pieces I looked at earlier and was inspired by, I feel it is very relevant to the books story. If I could do this project again I would put more time into experimenting with different materials and styles.
