Ideation & Inspration As a designer, I often work on the fine line of gender fluidity. The restrictions of the fashion industry and retail stores are defining for us what is the appropriate attire for men and what is the one for women, usually doing so by definitions of “masculine” or “feminine”. But what is masculinity? What is femininity? And why is that so? In this project, I explored the effect of movement, drape and silhouette as conveyors of this conflict. I utilized the strengths of garment construction and technology in order to accentuate their voices, and achieve a result that speaks for itself.

Concept & Prototyping

Components LED Strip

Arduino Uno - The preferable microcontroller to support a 12V circuit

Bread board / PCB soldering board I decided to embed a series of LEDs as a strong visual element in the skirt that would support my intent. The LEDs would light up as the skirt moves using a sensor.

Piezo sensor

9V battery

The Circuit I merged together 2 circuit description that I found online - one for working a piezo sensor, and wone for wrking with an LED strip.
