Our Offices Manchester Manchester is home to Oscar’s headquarters, with the majority of our recruitment team and our support network based just two minutes walk from the new St. Peter’s Square Metrolink network. How Has Your Career Developed?

Having worked part time in a telesales role throughout my studies, I felt that this was a position that would challenge and push me out of my comfort zone. I had several interviews when searching for my first graduate job but what attracted me to Oscar was the innovative training scheme they offer for graduates and the feeling of success I got from the open plan working environment, which was buzzing with activity.

I am now coming up to my fifth year with Oscar and have a strong team around me, having reached Managing Consultant level. This has been a great opportunity for me to experience a managerial role at a young age which has been incredibly rewarding and exemplifies how Oscar values your continued progression and offers a long-term career path.

What Does It Take to be Successful at Oscar? To be successful in recruitment it is essential to have a resilient approach and a strong work ethic. With the support and training provided at Oscar you are never far away from someone who can guide you through to success. The sense of achievement when placing a candidate in their dream job or finding the right candidate for a business critical role for your client is definitely well worth it! It is a great feeling to be involved with a successful business who invest heavily into their employees and offer them opportunities across the world.

The team have put me forward for several recruitment awards. In the past 12 months I have won Recruitment Consultant of the Year in the Insider North West Young Professional Awards and Drum Recruitment Awards, and a Highly Commended in the Made in Manchester Awards Recruitment Professional of the Year. What Training Have You Received? From day one, the training process was invaluable. Training is on-going and delivered by experienced directors and consultants, who provide helpful feedback and proactive support. The training scheme covers every aspect of the job, and with a delivery manager on site you always have the opportunity to work on any areas where you feel you may need additional help.

How Has the School of Excellence Helped Your Career? When coming into recruitment I was offered roles at four different companies, I chose Oscar because of their training and their reputation in the industry. You get assigned your own personal Manager, and trained by Senior Consultants and Managing Directors. You are provided with the right balance of written and ‘on the floor’ training to give you what I believe is the best start in recruitment. 18 months later there are still regular training seminars which I am involved in, and I’m able to request additional training from our training Manager at the drop of a hat. What Makes a Successful Recruiter? I think a person with determination makes a successful recruiter. There’s not a perfect recipe of personality mix and intelligence but in this industry you have to be determined. It’s not an easy career; you will experience the highs of boarding large deals and winning new clients along with overcoming any issues that may arise during the placement process. But as long as you’re determined to win you will be a successful recruiter.How Has the School of Excellence

What Was the Interview Process Like? The interview process wasn’t as daunting as I thought it was going to be! I met with Andy Morrell, the Group Director of the company, who made me feel very welcome and before I knew it an hour had passed. One thing I did like is that I had the opportunity to meet two Senior Consultants; something that other recruitment companies I interviewed at hadn’t given me the chance to do. I felt completely at ease meeting Melissa and Jay, and I got the opportunity to ask them about their stories and how their career has developed with Oscar over the years. With this, my mind was set - Oscar was the one for me. What’s Your Favourite Thing About Working at Oscar? My favourite part about working for Oscar is the friends I have made. Anyone will tell you recruitment is long hours, so it’s really important to surround yourself with good people. I can honestly say whilst working at Oscar I have made life long friends!

What was the main reason you joined Oscar? The people that interviewed me and for the training the company provide. I was made to feel welcome in the interview and I was impressed that many of the managers had come through the ranks at Oscar. That made believe that it could be possible for me. What was your biggest success at Oscar to date? Delivering 10 placements in one month was probably my best achievement so far. It was a hard month but very rewarding. What are the benefits of the In-house Training? You train amongst your peers and are able to bounce of one another’s idea. Also, learning in a classroom environment when it comes to role plays makes it a lot easier to improve. How have you seen your career grow? I started as resource and now I’m a Lead Consultant, so I’ve received 3 promotions in 4 years. I’ve seen my responsibility grow within the business but I’ve also seen myself benefit financially year on year.

Where do you see your career going? I will be moving down to London to launch the new office and build up a team there. Going down to London gives me a massive opportunity to grow something new for Oscar and myself. My aim is to

Andy leads Oscar’s global management team, collaboratively creating vision, providing guided direction, and being ultimately responsible for all facets of the business.

As Finance Director, Janet’s role is to provide strategic financial leadership and best in class operational processes which ensure that the business is ideally positioned to achieve its ambitious global aspirations.

Andy joined Oscar in 2007 as Director, immediately introducing standards, processes, procedures and a platform/structure for success; he has subsequently been the heartbeat of the organisation, whilst growing a strong management team around himself. “I remain as passionate about recruitment now as I did when I started in the industry and I am extremely excited about the future for Oscar. I truly believe that our special culture and atmosphere will enable us to achieve our lofty goals.

The competitive global recruitment market requires strong international insight, backed up by long term financial planning and agile financial management to succeed. Janet brings a wealth of this experience to the management team as a qualified FCMA with over 14 years of industry experience.

Matthew Southworth - Sales Director As Sales Director, Matt has responsibility for the performance of Oscar’s contract and permanent Technology Divisions, mentoring them on delivering first class staffing solutions. Matt joined Oscar in 2006 as a Trainee Consultant after completing an MSc European Studies and BSc (Hons) History. A successful Consultant in his own right, with personal billings of over £1m, Matt has played a pivotal part in the growth of the Technology team; progressing quickly to become a high performing and hugely respected Manager, Associate Director, and then Director in September 2015.

Kevin Holt Director - Americas

Sam Mikkelsen Client Solutions Director

Kevin started his recruitment career as a Trainee at Oscar Technology back in 2010 and has progressed through the career ladder to his current role of Associate Director. Kevin leads our US team based in Houston, which offers end to end recruitment solutions to clients and candidates. Kevin is responsible for the day to day running of the team, whilst identifying new markets and recruitment strategies within Oscar Technology. Before moving to the Houston office in 2016, Kevin grew his UK department to be one of the largest in Oscar Tech with a forecast for further significant growth in the coming years.

Sam is responsible for developing Oscar’s existing client relationships as well as ensuring new clients receive the best solutions to suit their business from day one. Sam also has responsibility for initiating new solutions and service lines and has a strategic view on all things recruitment, regularly attending industry events so that Oscar are continually at the bleeding edge of ever evolving recruitment innovation.

Prior to joining Oscar, Kevin lived in the US where he attended Heidelberg University as a student athlete, studying Health and Physical Education and representing the university in soccer.

Sam joined Oscar in September 2013 as UK IT Contracts Division Manager, where his success led him to being promoted to Associate Director in August 2015. As with any progressive leader, Sam continued the development of the senior recruiters in the division so that by June 2017 he had trained them to take over his reins and develop their own careers, thus enabling him to move into the more strategic and client facing role he holds today.
