Year 2 of Racial Justice Action Plans. In June 2021, every department in the Division of Student Affairs continued to cultivate anti-racist environments by creating a racial justice action plan that would include three components: • • •
They should address distinct systems, policies, practices, and/or programs that impact the work of each specific department They will be in place for a year with the expectation that the plans will be reviewed and rewritten annually each summer We will be transparent in our racial justice efforts by ensuring that the plans and progress are accessible to the Bentley community
Evaluation Process. All of the Racial Justice Action Plans were reviewed by a team of staff members who work in another department to remove as much bias as possible while creating the plans. Plans were also reviewed by the Student Equity and Inclusion Consultant Group. Plan progress was measured through departmental self-reporting. Stoplight Metrics. Each department used a scoring rubric developed by the Student Affairs Equity and Inclusion Committee to ensure a level of consistency. • Green: Objective is complete or will meet timeline • Yellow: objective is in progress but will not meet the timeline or had to be paused • Red: Objective has not yet begun or the objective was abandoned Additional Context. We emphasized honesty and deep self-reflection throughout the evaluation process. We own that there are actions in red. There are three primary reasons that actions were categorized as red:
• As we continue this work, we find that there were some ideas that were good in theory but in practice would not contribute to an anti-racist campus • There were some actions that we were unable to get to this year as a result of staff time dedicated to COVID response and staff vacancies.
