The Holy Spirit God’s Power In My Life
Acts 1:1-14; John 14:25-27, 16:5-16; Matthew 28:16-20 BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: Jesus came to be the Savior of the world. He gave His disciples the work of being His witnesses and He sent them out into the world. Jesus promised to give them His power to do the work and then He returned to heaven in a cloud. The disciples spent the next several days in prayer, waiting for the Holy Spirit. LESSON FOCUS: To understand that Jesus has given me His work of being His witness, and He will give me His power to do His work. To understand that Jesus is coming back again, and I must be ready for Him to come. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: Jesus has made me His witness. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE LEARNED:
Jesus Has Work for Me to Do
When Jesus was in Jerusalem with His disciples, what did He tell them to do? Stay in Jerusalem and wait for God’s gift of the Holy Spirit. What would the Holy Spirit do when He came? Be a counselor to teach and remind, to give power to do the work God had for them to do, to help people see and repent of sin. The Holy Spirit would come and live in the hearts of those who follow Jesus. What was the work God had for them to do? To be His witnesses – tell others that Jesus, God’s Son, came to die for their sins.
This Week’s Memory Verse:
Whom were they supposed to tell about Jesus? How would they ever be able to do this work? They were to tell people in Jerusalem, and go out from there even to the ends of the earth. Jesus would give them His power through the Holy Spirit to do this work. Jesus went up to heaven, but He is coming again. How are we to go about being ready for Him? Be busy with the work He has given – being His witnesses. Are you willing to tell others that Jesus is the one who takes away sin and gives eternal life? When Jesus returns again, will He find you busy with His work?

Monday—Wait For The Gift
Read Acts 1:3-5
In the days after He rose from the dead, Jesus spent lots of time with His disciples, telling them about God’s plan. They must have felt so sad to think of when Jesus would leave them! Jesus reminded them that He would send the Holy Spirit to help and comfort them, and so they did not need to be

God would not leave them all alone—Jesus told them they did not have to be sad or afraid because God would send the gift of the Holy Spirit to comfort and help them (John 14:25-27). There are many ways that the Holy Spirit helps Jesus’ followers. Mark the ones that bring you joy. The Holy Spirit helps me know when I have sinned. The Holy Spirit gives me power to obey Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps me understand the Bible. They Holy Spirit give me the power to tell others about Jesus.

The disciples still did not understand that God had a big plan and a big job for them to do before Jesus would be king. Jesus told them that only the Father knows when that will be. Jesus said that in the meantime, He has work for His followers to do.

When should followers of Jesus get ready for Him to come back?
We should wait until we are grown-ups. We can’t get ready because it is too hard. We should always be ready because He could return any time! Jesus is coming again! He tells us to “keep watch” and “be ready.” Will you ask God to help you keep learning and telling others about Him?
This means that His followers kept praying in that upper room for 10 days! They knew that prayer was the way to have the power to tell others about Jesus! What do you think it would be like to pray for 10 days?
