Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGE:

Ezra 5:1-6:10, 20-22; Haggai 1:1-14

Ezra & Nehemiah

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY:

God stirred up the heart of the prophet Haggai, and he called the people to return to God. They listened to him, and they began again to work on rebuilding the temple. Their enemies heard about it, and they came to stop them, but God was with them and let them keep building while a letter was sent to Darius, the king of Babylon, to decide if the work should continue. The king wrote back and said that the work should go on and that they should complete the temple and he provided money for the sacrifices and the work. They completed the temple and worshipped God. LESSON FOCUS:

 

God calls us to a life that is focused first on Him. When God is with me, I can do courageous things, standing up for Him and what He wants.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD:

God is always working in my life to draw me to Him.

It is God who changes people and things; I need to listen to Him.

RESPONSE:

To look for times when I can be a bold servant for Him who gives me courage.

To always be ready, or to be getting ready, to do His work in my life.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. How did the people get interested again in working on the temple? (Haggai the prophet spoke to them after God spoke to him, and the people wanted to obey God, Haggai 1:12-14) 2. What did the king find out that Cyrus had decided should be done about the temple? (Cyrus had ordered that the temple be rebuilt, and that he would pay for offerings and supplies so that the God of the Jews would be on his side, Ezra 6:3-10) Copyright 2009 Berean Baptist Church 309 E County Road 42 Burnsville, Minnesota 55306 952.432.7168
