Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and in working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGE: Luke 2:8-20

Jesus The Savior of the World

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. He sent His angels to announce the Savior’s birth and tell the shepherds where to find Him. The shepherds hurried to see and worship Him, and they told others the things they had seen. They praised and glorified God for all they had seen and heard. LESSON FOCUS:  To understand the good news: A Savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord.  To choose to respond to this good news by asking Jesus to forgive you and give you eternal life.  To choose to respond by making Jesus Lord of your life. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: Jesus Christ is LORD! LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: Where was Jesus born? (In Bethlehem.) What were the shepherds doing that night? (They were keeping watch over their flocks.) What was different about this night? (An angel of the Lord appeared to them.) How did the shepherds feel when they saw the angel and the glory of the Lord? (They were terrified.) What was the angel’s message to them? (Don’t be afraid. There is good news for all people. The Savior is born in Bethlehem. He is Christ the Lord.) (They hurried to Bethlehem to see the thing that happened, which the Lord told them about.) What did the shepherds do when they returned to the fields? (Their hearts had been changed. They returned to the fields glorifying and praising God for the things they had heard and seen.)

What did the shepherds do when the angels left?

Will you ask Jesus to forgive you and give you eternal life? Will you tell others the good news that Jesus came to die for sin and give eternal life?

God Announces the Birth of Jesus

Angels Bring the Good News This Week’s Memory Verse: But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.”

Will you praise and thank God for His wonderful gift of salvation?

Tuesday – The Shepherds’ Surprise Read: Luke 2:8-9

The shepherds couldn’t help but tell others in Bethlehem of the good news. Everyone they talked to was amazed. What does the Bible say the others in Bethlehem did when they heard the good news?    

On the hillsides of Bethlehem, shepherds watched over the flocks of sheep as they grazed. Some of these sheep would probably be taken the short distance to Jerusalem to be used as temple sacrifices. For hundreds of years, lambs born in this area would be used as a sacrifice to cover the sins of boys, girls, men, and women. Do you think the shepherds were thinking about this on that special night?

came to worship offered a new home gave gifts, clothes, and a bed the Bible doesn’t say

We read that others in Bethlehem were amazed, but we don’t know if they did anything. We don’t know if it changed their lives. We can be amazed that God would send His Son to be born in a stable. We can be amazed that Jesus died for our sins, but it is what we do about it that changes our life. Are you amazed at God’s plan for salvation?  yes

Read: Luke 2:10-14

Read: Luke 2:15-17

The angel spoke to the shepherds, I wonder if the voice was smooth and comforting. Can you remember the things the angel said?

WOW! A host of were angels filling the sky with God’s glory. It must have been so bright that they had to shield their eyes. The sound of all those voices praising the Lord must have been amazing! As the angels left them, it must have taken a while for their eyes to adjust again to the dark. Maybe they were blinking their eyes as they said, “Let’s go to
