Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGE:

Becoming More Like Jesus

John 21:1-25 BIBLE STORY SUMMARY:

Jesus came to be the Savior of the world. He came to shore to call His disciples back to becoming fishers of men. Jesus gave Peter the work of feeding His sheep and lambs and told Peter, ”You MUST follow ME!” LESSON FOCUS:

To understand that Jesus asks me if I am willing to love Him more than anything or anyone else. To understand that Jesus says to me, “You MIST follow Me!” WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD:

Jesus has work for me to do. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE LEARNED: What were the disciples doing in Galilee? (They were waiting for Jesus to come to them.) What did Peter decide to do that night? (He went fishing.) Who was on the shore early that morning to greet them? (Jesus, but they did not recognize

The Holy Spirit

Him at first.)

What did Jesus ask them? (Did you catch any fish?) What did He tell them to do? (He told them to throw their nets on the right side of the boat.) What happened when they did this? (Their nets were very full, but they did not tear.) What question did Jesus ask Peter? (Do you love me?) What work did Jesus give Peter to do? (Jesus wanted Him to feed His lambs.) What did Jesus mean when He told Peter to “Feed My lambs”? (He wanted Peter to help people believe in Him and obey Him.)

Breakfast on The Shore This Week’s Memory Verse:

Why did Jesus tell Peter not to think about what would happen to John? (Jesus wanted Peter to keep his eyes on Him, otherwise it would be impossible to follow Jesus.)

more than anything or anyone else? Are you willing to do the things Jesus did and follow Him? Are you wiling to help others believe in Jesus?

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas said to Him, ”Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:1-6

Read John 21:20-22

Jesus wanted Peter to understand that he could not follow Him while he was worrying about what others were doing. If Peter was busy watching to see if John was doing all the right things for Jesus, how could he be following Jesus? He couldn’t. In the same way . . . We cannot be watching others and following Jesus at the same time. Sometimes when children are being taught a lesson by their parents, they ask, “What about my brother?” or “What about my sister?” Usually parents say . . “Just worry about yourself,” because they know it is harder to do the right things when we are looking for faults in others.

Have you ever asked that question to your parents?

Yes A lot Sometimes Not very much

Peter spent the rest of his life following Jesus and helping others believe in Him. He truly became a fisher of men! Jesus calls you to come and follow Him. He asks you to watch Him and do the things He does. Jesus gives you the work of helping others believe in Him. Will you be obedient to Jesus today? Can you list some ways to follow Jesus today?
