Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGE:

John 21:1-25

The Holy Spirit God’s Power In My Life

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY:

Jesus came to be the Savior of the world. He gave His disciples the work of being His witnesses and He sent them out into the world. Jesus promised to give them His power to do the work and then He returned to heaven in a cloud. The disciples spent the next several days in prayer, waiting for the Holy Spirit. LESSON FOCUS:

To understand that Jesus has given me His work of being His witness, and He will give me His power to do His work. To understand that Jesus is coming back again, and I must be ready for Him to come. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD:

Jesus has made me His witness.

Jesus Has Work For Me To Do

LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE LEARNED:

What was the gift God promised to send? (The Holy Spirit.) What would the Holy Spirit do when He came? (He would be their counselor to teach and remind them, He would give them power to do the work Jesus gave them to do, He would help people see and repent of sin, and He would live in the hearts of Jesus’ followers.) What happened to Jesus after He finished talking to the disciples on the mountain in Galilee? (He ascended into heaven and a cloud hid Him from the disciples’ sight.) Who spoke to the disciples next? (Two visitors. They told the disciples that Jesus would come again someday the same way He went – in a cloud, in person, and unexpectedly.) Where did the disciples go after they left the mountain? (They went to Jerusalem.) What did they do while they were there? (They prayed for several days.) What was Jesus doing in heaven while they were praying in the upper room? (He was sitting at His Father’s right hand, praying for the disciples and defending the disciples against Satan’s lies. He still does this today.)

Are you willing to tell others that Jesus is the one who takes away sin and gives eternal life? Copyright 2008 Berean Baptist Church 309 E County Road 42 Burnsville, Minnesota 55306 952.432.7168

Jesus Returns to Heaven— The Promise of God’s Power This Week’s Memory Verse: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so. I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:1-6 May 18, 2014

Monday—Their Last Days with Jesus

Read Acts 1:3-9

Jesus suffered in pain and agony and died on the cross for our sin. He was placed in a tomb and after three days He rose from the dead. In the days after He rose from the dead, He spent a lot of time convincing people that He was alive. He also spent a lot of time teaching and explaining God’s plan to His disciples. How many days did He spend with the people?  10
