Joseph The One Who Chose to Obey

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God had a future plan for Joseph which He revealed to him in dreams, but suffering was also a part of God’s plan for him. Joseph chose to believe that God would bring about His purposes for his life. LESSON FOCUS:  God loves me and has a plan for my life, and I must choose to obey Him and accept His plan.  Suffering and hard things are a part of God’s plan for me, and they are necessary for me to grow and to be ready to serve Him. WHAT I LEARN ABOUT GOD: God has plans for me, He loves me, and He is willing for me to suffer to bring about those plans. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: Who were Joseph’s father, grandfather, and great-grandfather? (Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham.) How many sons did Jacob have? (12) What was the special gift Joseph got from his father? (He received a special coat. Jacob gave to coat to Joseph because he was his father’s favorite.) How did his brothers feel about this? (They resented him.) Joseph had two dreams. What were they about? (In the first dream Joseph’s bundle of grain stood up straight while his brothers’ bundles gathered around Joseph’s and bowed down to it. In the second dream the sun, moon, and eleven stars all bowed down to Joseph.) What did the dreams mean? (God was telling Joseph that someday he would rule and reign over his family.) How did Joseph’s brothers react to hearing about these dreams? (They hated him even more. They were very jealous and very angry.) How did Joseph act towards his angry brothers? (He chose to obey God and he did not try to get even with his brothers even though they were hurtful towards him.)

Will you believe that God is using the hard things in your life to bring about His good and perfect plan for your life? Will you obey God in all things each day even when life seems difficult?

See you on Sunday!
