Abraham A Person of Faith

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God asked Abram to trust Him and move to a new land. Abram believed God and obeyed. He worshiped God, and was generous with what God had given him. God re-named him Abraham (father of many) and promised him a son. LESSON FOCUS:  To understand that faith is believing what God says – even if I cannot see how things will turn out.  To understand and believe that God always keeps His promises. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: God keeps His promises. God is “El-Shaddai” – the All-Sufficient One. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: What did God ask Abram to do? (Leave his country and go to a new land.) What did Abram decide to do? (He trusted God and obeyed Him.) In the new land, what problem was between Abram and Lot? (The land was too crowded – the workers fought for land and water.) How did Abram settle the problem? (He let Lot choose the land he wanted and Lot chose the best.) How did Abram’s faith in God affect the way he treated Lot? (Because Abram

believed God’s promise to give him all the land, he let Lot have the first choice.)

What did God give Abram when he was 99 years old? (A new name, Abraham, which means father of many.) Why was this name special? (It was a reminder of

This Week’s Memory Verse:

God’s promises to him that he would have many descendants.)

Will you put your trust in the God who always keeps His promises? Will you believe that God will supply everything you need so you can be generous toward others with what you have?

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not

Wednesday – Abram Trusts in the Lord Read: Genesis 13:1-13 Whose name did Abram call upon? ______________ When Abram and Lot’s families became wealthy, what happened between the two groups? (13:7) _________________________ _________________________ The herdsmen of each family were quarreling. Do you quarrel with others ?  yes  no  others quarrel with me Even though they had trusted God to lead them this far, their arguing and squabbling shows us that they didn’t depend on God to give them the things that they needed. Abram didn’t like the quarreling, he wanted to trust in God. When he looked over the land with Lot he said that they should each take a different part of the land. Who do you think should have had first choice of the parcels of land?

Were you surprised when you read that Abram gave Lot the first choice of the area to live in? He knew that they needed to be separated and he knew that God would be his provider. What are some things that you trust God to provide for you? ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________
