Abraham A Person of Faith

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God tests Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his son Isaac, and Abraham immediately obeys. When he is about to offer Isaac, God stops him and provides a ram for the sacrifice. LESSON FOCUS:  To understand that true love for God is expressed by my actions.  To understand that God has provided Jesus, the Lamb of God, as the sacrifice for my sin. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: God is called Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Will Provide. God is faithful to fulfill what He promises. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: What did God ask Abraham to do? (Take his only son, Isaac, into the mountains and sacrifice him as a burnt offering.) Why did God ask Abraham to do this? (So that Abraham would consider who was most important in his life – God or Isaac. Abraham would learn about God’s faithfulness to provide and that God keeps His promises.)

God Provides the Sacrifice

The Offering of Isaac

What did Abraham tell the servants before he and Isaac went up the hill?

(He told them to stay with the donkey and that he and Isaac would worship God and both would return.) Did Abraham believe that God would provide a sacrifice? (Yes.) What did Isaac ask his father as they walked? (Where is the lamb for the burnt offering.) How did Abraham respond? (He said that God would provide the lamb.)

What happened just as Abraham was about to offer Isaac as an offering to the Lord? (God stopped him and in the bushes He provided a ram for the sacrifice.) What is the name of God that we learn in this story? (Jehova Jireh, The Lord Will Provide.)

Will you show God you love Him by the things you do to obey Him? Will you believe that God knows best, and trust Him to give you what you need in His time?

This Week’s Memory Verse: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

See you on Sunday!
