Children’s Sunday School

Classic Service

Infants - Kindergarten

Worship in a traditional format with classic hymns and congregational songs from 1900 - 2013. Led by choir and supporting band or orchestra. This service also features special music by soloists, ensembles, and the handbell choir.

Nursery care is provided for infants through age three. We also offer Bible-based curriculum with stories, songs, and play time for ages 18 months through Kindergarten.

Kids in Worship (Grades 1-6) Children attend part of the worship service with their parents. When indicated, children are dismissed and escorted downstairs for their age-appropriate lesson. We encourage all families to model worship for your children in this way.

A contemporary service with edgier, modern worship music played by a worship team and band. This is a creative service which uses illustrations, special lighting, and compelling music to support the message.

Children meet in a large group setting which encourages them to build friendships and apply God’s word in their lives. Children then break into small groups to discuss the week’s lesson.

All-Church Events Sunday, September 8 This Sunday marks the beginning of our ministry year and the promotion of children and students to the next grade level.

November 27, 7pm Join us as we worship God and give thanks for all that He has done in our lives and at Berean. This service is followed by our annual tree lighting and pie fellowship. Bring a pie to share to the catering kitchen by 6:45pm.

This is one meeting that you won’t want to miss! Business meetings are for all members and regular attenders of Berean. Hear from the Pastors, Elders, and other ministry leaders about ministry highlights and plans for the future. Childcare provided.

Saturday, October 26, 9am-Noon, Gym Berean attenders and people from the community are invited to shop an assortment of gently-used kids and teen clothes, toys, videos, books, and baby equipment. We also offer free kids haircuts and breakfast. Donations of items are welcome and can be dropped off in the nursery year round. To donate larger items such as furniture, please call to make arrangements. Volunteers of all ages are needed to serve breakfast, assist shoppers, and be friendly hosts to our guests. Join us as we reach out to our community by taking part in the Burnsville parade! Would you like to donate items to be handed out at the parade? Children’s Ministries Berean Education C enter The Berean Education Center (BEC) offers a variety of opportunities for children, including preschool classes, Preschool Plus (preschool plus extended day care), and School-Age Care for children attending Echo Park, kindergarten through 5th grade. BEC provides a loving, Christian setting for children to grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Lincoln Place Meals Every Thursday evening Berean prepares and serves a dinner for residents at Lincoln Place (housing for 18-24 year olds who are aging out of foster care). For questions or to volunteer, contact Karen Akslen.

Supper and Support One Friday a month we have an adoption support group that meets during the school year. The evening includes a light low cost meal and childcare during the presentation/discussion. This group is intended to build relationships between families who have already brought their children home or are waiting to welcome their children in the near future. Adoption Seminar Saturday, November 16 This informational seminar is for couples who are interested in or considering adoption or foster care. Presented by a local professional agency from a Christian perspective.

Nursery care provided only for children of servant volunteers.

Volunteer orientation is for those teaching ages two through grade six or helping in a nursery or preschool room. Please join us to receive teaching materials, meet other teachers and helpers, and receive important information about the upcoming year. For more information, contact Kim Phillips.

AGE 4 - GRADE 2

6:45-8:15pm AWANA (Boys & Girls - Cubbies & Sparks) Children learn Christian principles in an interesting and exciting way. A typical evening includes table time, Bible memorization, special speakers, and gym games.

GRADES 3-6

6:45-8:15pm AWANA (T&T - Girls), Stockade (Boys) Adventure Club (Girls) Clubs encourage fellowship and individual involvement while teaching Christian principles. Evenings include Bible memorization, gym games, special speakers, a quiz bowl, Olympics, and some special events. Seasonal off-campus activities too!

SEE YOU AT THE POLE Wednesday, September 25

“See You At The Pole” is a student-led, student-organized prayer event, when middle and high school students around the nation pray together at the flagpoles of their schools. We encourage all Prime Time students to connect with other students at their schools and take time to pray together.

Sunday, October 6, 2-4pm (Boys & Parents) Sunday, October 13 2-4pm (Girls & Parents) Come for a fun afternoon of games and friendly competition between parents and kids. Lots of laughs, high-score prizes, and build your own sundaes.

PROMOTION SUNDAY September 8

One-on-one special care for children with special needs is provided on Sunday mornings to mainstream children who need help coping with a classroom setting. We assign special companions when desired. Companions also help the other children realize the value placed on each and every child by our creator, God. If you have a heart for kidsno matter what challenges they may be facing or if you have questions, please contact Kim Phillips.

Children graduate to the next grade level for all Sunday School classes for ages 2 and up.

Sunday, October 13 First-graders each receive a Bible from Berean! On this Sunday, they will have the opportunity to stand before the congregation and receive their Bible.

This ministry provides an array of support options for families in every stage of adoption, orphan care, or foster care. For more information, see page 5.

CHILDREN’S BAPTISM Sunday, October 27

Baptism is a public way to identify with Christ and tell outwardly that we belong to Christ (Romans 6:3-4). Boys and girls can follow the example of Jesus who was baptized by John even though He was without sin (Matthew 3:13-1). For more information, see page 17.

CHILD DEDICATION SUNDAY October 20

Child Dedication Sunday is for those interested in dedicating their baby or child. Prior to the dedication, there will be an important informational class held for parents, led by Pastor Paul Emanuelson. To participate, contact Bethany Gerber.

Bethlehem Birthday

Saturday, December 7, 9am-12pm Children and families travel together experiencing HIStory learning what life might have been like in Jesus’ day. Kids will be able to: dip their own candle, pet live sheep, visit people in the “streets of Bethlehem”, make an ornament, pound together a manger or toy, knead and make their own bread, and sing songs and make an instrument. For parents and children 4-10 years old.

Thursday, October 31, 5:30-7pm, Gym Bring your family to this Halloween alternative. Enjoy fellowship with others dressed up in Bible character costumes. Evening includes a harvest theme, carnival time, a minimessage, and lots of candy in the Candy Parade. Parents please bring 1-2 bags of candy per child for the Candy Parade.

Want to help those who are hurting? Every day you see people who are hurting; those who have lost a loved one, have experienced a recent job loss, are going through a divorce, or are experiencing any of life’s struggles. You can be God’s representative and bring His love to them by providing encouragement and support. Berean offers Berean Care Training to teach you the tools you need to be more effective in helping those around you who are experiencing difficulty.

This class equips believers to be more effective in relating to those going through difficult times whether it is family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors. Materials $25 (Scholarships available). SHUTTLE BUS DRIVERS We need more drivers to provide transportation to and from church on Sunday mornings to nearby seniors who otherwise cannot attend church. For more information, contact Gene Sellen at 651.336.0551.

Our trained Berean Caregivers meet confidentially, one-on-one, with those who are facing issues such as grief, family issues, job loss, marriage issues, chronic illness, and much more. MARRIAGE MENTORS

Help and support for those who are hurting.

At Berean we equip Marriage Mentors to be key players in building strong marriages and preventing marital problems by coaching couples with the skills and tools necessary to build more successful relationships. Marriage Mentors meet with married or engaged couples. Our mentors may refer a couple to a licensed, professional counselor, if needed. If you would like a Marriage Mentor, please contact Pastor Brent Birdsall.

The Benevolent Fund provides emergency help to people in need at Berean and in our community. It is based on the Biblical incentive, “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Proverbs 14:31. For more information, contact Vanessa Edwards, Benevolent Fund Director at 952.223.1821.

Worship WORSHIP TEAM The worship team assists in leading worship during the contemporary services. This team is open to those age 16 or older who are comfortable singing parts and are able to improvise. Instrumentalists/vocalists must be able to practice on their own time and come prepared for rehearsal. The worship team leads during both contemporary services, and in special worship services throughout the year. If you are interested in auditioning for the worship team, contact Tanner Pinkerman.

SANCTUARY CHOIR

Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 6:45-8:15pm The Sanctuary Choir is for anyone age 16 and older, who can sing, learn, and hold their own part. The choir regularly sings in the Sanctuary service (8:30am) and also participates in concerts throughout the year. For more information, contact Clare Boyer.

TECHNICAL ARTS TEAM Most of our ministries rely on the use of technical support in the form of sound, lyrical support, lighting, and video transmission. We could use you on our team! We will provide training on the equipment and ask for involvement one to two times per month. This is a ministry for all ages! Questions? Contact Tanner Pinkerman.

DRAMA Our drama ministry enhances the theme of Vacation Bible School as well as videos and skits for sermon illustrations and announcements. If you are gifted in the dramatic arts or interested in video production, please contact Dana Ward.

HANDBELL CHOIR

Rehearsal: Sundays, 6-7pm, Room 112 Handbells add variety and interest to the worship services approximately once a month and at Christmas and Easter. Plus, they are fun to play! Anyone age 16 and older, with the ability to read music and the willingness to commit to the rehearsal time, is welcome. For more information, contact Clare Boyer.

CHILDREN’S CHOIRS

Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 5:55-6:45pm We have four age-appropriate choirs for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Raindrop, Sonbeam, Promise, and Rainbow choirs contribute to Sunday services, special events and the presentation of a full musical during the school year. Parking Lot Attendants:

Medical Personnel:

A medical person is scheduled during all three worship services as a first responder in case of an emergency. We are looking for qualified healthcare professionals. Contact Marge Sanborn at 952.435.9051 or margea@frontiernet.net.

Prayer Team: Men and women are needed to serve in the Prayer Room after each worship service. Volunteers will pray confidentially with those needing support due to life issues or those seeking salvation. Contact Kari Peterson at karip@bereanbaptist.com. Berean Cafe: Volunteer at the Berean Cafe and help serve our attenders and visitors with coffee and snacks. There are opportunities to serve 1-2 times a month during the 8:30 or 9:50am service. Baptism is the external expression of our inward and personal faith. It declares “Jesus is Lord” in a public and visible fashion, announcing to everyone that we have surrendered to a new authority in our lives. Berean offers indoor baptism during the fall/winter/spring months. You might have questions about why we baptize by immersion, if you should be re-baptized as an adult, or even if baptism is a requirement for salvation. These questions and more will be answered in the pre-requisite class. Please contact Tanner Pinkerman if you are interested in being baptized.

November 27, 7pm Join us as we worship God and give thanks for all that He has done in our lives and at Berean. This service is followed by our annual tree lighting and pie fellowship. Bring a pie to share to the catering kitchen by 6:45pm.

The Hui are an unreached Muslim people living in Asia, numbering over 12 million, and are believed to be the largest people group in the world without a single known Christian fellowship group. REFUGEE FAMILY ADOPTION Berean is partnering with World Relief Minnesota to serve recently-arrived refugees with assistance, education, and support. Opportunities exist to help them set up their homes, get their children situated in schools, homework help, assisting parents to learn how to navigate basic things such as banks and grocery stores, and many more. SOMALI CONNECTION Burnsville has the one of the largest Somali refugee populations in the nation, and God has opened many doors for Berean to connect with our Muslim neighbors. You can serve them by volunteering: Homework Helpers - Help children succeed in school by helping them with their homework! New time! Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-6pm. Somali Adult Literacy Training (SALT) - Build relationships with Somali adults while aiding them in learning English. Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-8pm. To become a volunteer, contact Elaine Tymchak.

Saturday, October 26, 9am-Noon, Gym Berean attenders and people from the community are invited to shop an assortment of gently-used kids and teen clothes, toys, videos, books, and baby equipment. We also offer free kids haircuts and breakfast. Volunteers of all ages are needed to serve breakfast, assist shoppers, and be friendly hosts to our guests.
