STEPHEN MINISTRY Stephen Ministers Care

When was the last time someone really listened to you? We’re talking about that undistracted, full attention kind of listening. That’s one of the ways Stephen Ministers care for others. If you are going through a rough time in your life, consider meeting with a Stephen Minister. You will receive encouragement and care that is confidential and non-judgmental. You will meet regularly, one-on-one, with someone who genuinely cares about you and your circumstances.

Ever Thought of Becoming a Stephen Minister? Berean will begin training another class of Stephen Ministers in September 2012. Stephen Ministers offer care, encouragement, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness. If you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening, please begin to prayerfully consider whether you might want to be part of this exciting ministry. To learn more, visit www.bereanbaptist.com or contact Kari Peterson at 952.223.1848 or karip@bereanbaptist.com.

Our mentors are trained to know when and how to refer a couple to a licensed, professional counselor, if needed. If you would like to have a Marriage Mentor or join the ranks of the Marriage Mentors, please contact Pastor Brent Birdsall at 952.223.1806.

MILITARY SUPPORT Berean understands the challenges that are faced by those serving our country and their families, and we want to help. Our mission is Biblical and non-partisan. GLOBAL-LOCAL OUTREACH MISSION TRIP

Global Outreach REFUGEE FAMILY ADOPTION

August 3-7, 2012

Ever wonder what kind of ministry you could do in your own community? Join our global-local outreach mission trip and serve our ministry partners who work with individuals and families in need, refugees, orphans, and others facing difficult situations. Each day you will learn more about the needs of our neighbors and serve them in tangible ways. This trip is open to all and is great for retirees, families, and school age children, ages 10 and above. To find out more, please contact Elaine Tymchak.

HUI INITIATIVES & MISSION TRIPS The Hui are an unreached Muslim people living in Asia, numbering over 12 million, and are believed to be the largest people group in the world without a single known Christian fellowship group. Berean has responded to the call to reach this group by promoting short-term trips and projects to assist our missionary partners, and by praying for the Hui on a consistent basis. If you are interested in becoming involved with this initiative, join us for prayer on the first Wednesday evening of every month, or apply to take part in one of two trips (in early August and early fall). To learn more, contact Elaine Tymchak.

SOMALI CONNECTION You don’t need to look very far to find opportunities to serve refugees who have suffered tremendously due to war, persecution, and extreme poverty. Burnsville has one of the largest Somali refugee populations, and God has opened many doors for Berean to connect with our Muslim neighbors. There are many different opportunities to serve, including ESL and homework tutoring. For more information, contact Elaine Tymchak.

National Night Out: Tuesday, August 7 Celebrate our community and build relationships with our Somali neighbors at Chancellor Manor in Burnsville. You can serve in various ways, including food prep and running children’s games.

Berean is adopting our first refugee family this summer! There will be ample opportunities to serve them, including giving donations, registering their children in school, homework help, teaching them how to shop and cook, and much more. To learn how you can be involved, contact Elaine Tymchak.

CHURCH PARTNERSHIPS Berean partners with three churches in the metro area. Cityview Church (formerly Central Community Church) serves the neighborhoods of South Minneapolis. The Brazilian Church of Hope serves Brazilians and other nationalities in the Twin Cities. Awaken Covenant Community, Berean’s newest partner, is led by Pastor Micah Witham in Lilydale. They all are looking for volunteers and prayer warriors. There are a wide variety of opportunities for you to bless these churches with your skills and service.

PERSECUTED CHURCH MINISTRY 2nd Thursdays, 7pm, Library

More Christians have died for their faith in this past century than any other time in history. The persecuted church ministry exists to pray for our suffering brothers and sisters, to give them support through tangible means, and to mobilize the Christian community in the Twin Cities to work together on their behalf. To learn more, contact Patti Mortland at 952.447.0061 or plmorty@mchsi.com.

PROJECT HOPE Project Hope is an outreach to Redeemer Arms Housing in St. Paul. Once a month we assemble and deliver 70-80 lunches, share a short devotional, and have prayer time. The people who live there have substance abuse issues, health problems, and other difficulties. If you are interested in helping people in need, please join us. Contact Lynn Wilde at clippy@frontiernet.net.

GIVE TO GO!

Berean supports over 50 missionaries and numerous ministries and special projects solely through offerings designated for Global Outreach. Please prayerfully consider designating a portion of your giving to Global Outreach in addition to your regular giving to Berean’s general budget.

Thank you!!

Local Outreach

BEREAN NEIGHBORHOOD CARE How can I get involved? Berean Neighborhood Care (BNC) consistently partners with people in our local community by meeting practical needs such as household moves, lawn care, and home repairs. If you, your small group, ABF, or other group have a passion for reaching out to serve God by helping those in need, contact us to find out ways you can get involved. BNC can also connect you to serve alongside local and urban organizations such as Urban Homeworks, The Salvation Army, and 360 Communities. We also often have projects that come up on very short notice. If you would like to be on any of our “Contact Me” lists, let us know. You will be contacted when the types of opportunities you’re interested in become available.

How can I receive help? We are always looking to support people in our community. If you have a need or know someone that does, please contact Vanessa Edwards, Director of BNC.

FURNITURE MINISTRY BNC’s furniture ministry has helped many families in our church and the community. We accept many types of donations in good condition. Want to help deliver? We especially need help on the occasional Saturday. Please sign-up on the website or contact Vanessa Edwards.

The Mission of BNC is to serve people by meeting their practical needs as an expression of Christ’s love.

HOME REPAIR PROJECTS BNC provides basic home repairs for individuals and families. To submit a request for yourself or someone you know, as well as to volunteer to help with projects, please contact Vanessa Edwards.

FIRST FOODS The first Sunday of each month, Berean collects donations of non-perishable food and other items to be shared with Berean families in need, as well as to help stock local food shelves and other local organizations. Donations are collected at specially marked tables in the Commons and in the lower level.

ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITIES Watch for BNC announcements for fun, one-time opportunities to serve. We do everything from making sandwiches for the homeless to yard work for seniors. There are all kinds of community focused projects to get involved with.
