Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and in working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGES: Genesis 11:27-32, 12:1-7, 13, 17:1-22; Hebrews 11:1-19 BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God asked Abram to trust Him and move to a new land. Abram believed God and obeyed. He worshiped God and was generous with what God had given him. God re-named him Abraham (father of many) and promised him a son.
Abraham A Person of Faith
LESSON FOCUS: To understand that faith is believing what God says—even if I cannot see how things will turn out. To understand and believe that God always keeps His promises. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: God keeps His promises. God is “El-Shaddai” — the All-Sufficient One. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: What did God ask Abram to do? How did Abram respond? “Leave your country . . . and go to a land I will show you.” Abram chose to obey God. He left as God had told him to do. After they lived in the new land for awhile, what problem came between Abram and his nephew, Lot? The land became too crowded. Lot’s and Abram’s workers fought for land and water.
God Provides and Always Keeps His Promises
God Calls Abraham
How did Abram approach the problem? What was the result? Abram asked Lot to choose which land he wanted, and Lot chose the best land for himself. How did Abram’s faith in God affect the way he treated Lot? Because Abram was confident in God’s provision for him, he was able to give Lot first choice. Why did God change Abram’s name to Abraham and refer to Himself as “El-Shaddai”? Abraham means “father of many,” and this was a reminder of God’s promises. El-Shaddai, means God is the mighty and all-powerful provider — He can be trusted to keep His promises.
This Week’s Memory Verse Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.
Will you put your trust in the God who always keeps His promises?
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Will you believe that God will supply everything you need
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
so you can be generous toward others with what you have?
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;
See you on Sunday!
