Dear Parents, We hope the following summary of the Sunday School lesson will help you in discussing the lesson with your children and in working through this booklet together. SCRIPTURE PASSAGES: Genesis 22:1-19, Hebrews 11:11-19 BIBLE STORY SUMMARY: God tests Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his son Isaac, and Abraham immediately obeys. When he is about to offer Isaac, God stops him and provides a ram for the sacrifice.

Abraham A Person of Faith

LESSON FOCUS: To understand that true love for God is expressed by my actions. To understand that God has provided Jesus, the Lamb of God, as the sacrifice for my sin. WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT GOD: God is called Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Will Provide. God is faithful to fulfill what He promises. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’VE LEARNED: What did God ask Abraham to do? Abraham was tested as he was asked to offer his only beloved son as a sacrifice to God. Why would God ask such a thing of Abraham? So that Abraham would consider who was most important in his life – God or Isaac. Abraham would learn again about God’s faithfulness to provide and keep His promises. They brought wood, fire, and a knife for the sacrifice. Isaac asked about something that was missing—what was it? How did Abraham reply? Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God will provide.” What did Abraham find in the bushes? What did he do with it? A ram, which God provided for the sacrifice. Abraham used it for the burnt offering in place of his son. God provided a ram to be sacrificed in Isaac’s place. What has God provided for us? Jesus, our sacrifice for sin. Have you asked Jesus to be your sacrifice and your Savior from sin? Will you show God you love Him by the things you do to obey Him? Will you believe that God knows best, and trust Him to give you what you need in His time?

See you on Sunday!

FRIDAY – GOD PROVIDES OUR SACRIFICE

Can you say this week’s memory lines with your eyes closed?

God provided a ram to be sacrificed in place of Isaac. The ram was the substitute for Isaac. It died instead of him. God has also provided a substitute sacrifice for you and me. Have you ever done anything wrong? No

Yes

If you’ve ever done even a tiny thing wrong, you have sinned. Read Romans 6:23. What are the wages (payment) for sin? _________________ Death is the result of sin that causes us to be separated from God, who loves us and wants us to be with Him. BUT God has provided a substitute to pay our penalty for sin. Read Romans 5:8. God shows His own love for us in this way: “While we were still sinners,

C ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ D ___ ___ ___ for U ___.” Read John 1:29. What did John the Baptist say when he saw Jesus? “Look, the _____________ of God, who _______________ away the _________ of the world!” Isaac lived because the ram died in his place. We can live because Jesus died and paid our sin penalty in our place. Will you say, “thanks” to God who provided His Lamb, Jesus, to die in your place?

Say this week’s memory lines out loud at least two times.

WEDNESDAY – OBEYING, EVEN WHEN IT’S HARD Read Genesis 22:4 to 8. When they got near Mount Moriah, Abraham told his servants to stay back while he and Isaac went up to make the sacrifice. What did he say to the servants? (Verse 5) “________ will worship and then _________ will come back to you.” Do you think Abraham believed Isaac would still be alive after he was done making the sacrifice?  Yes
