It is possible to make a declaration of someone’s death at any Register Office in England after obtaining the Medical Certificate. The information is forwarded to the Register Office in Bristol which will post death certificates to you. This will delay registration and may delay funerals.

This is a certified copy of the entry in the register of deaths.

Each one costs £11.00, for which you will need to pay the registrar by cash or cheque.

You will need to consider how many certificates you require as banks, building societies and insurance companies require certified copies (otherwise known as originals).

The registrar will also give you a certificate for burial or cremation (known as the green form). This will be required by your funeral director.
