Marie Curie Somerset Bereavement Support Service
Marie Curie can provide bereavement support for people across Somerset who are over the age of 18. This service provides telephone support calls with compassionate volunteers. They have all completed specific training, including how to support people in sensitive situations and dealing with difficult subjects, such as death, dying and bereavement. In addition, a further six sessions of one to one bereavement counselling can be provided by experienced bereavement support workers at Mind in Somerset specialist bereavement service. Mind in Somerset support adults and children aged 12+. They can work in a whole family setting if needed.
The designated Next of Kin for all of the patients who died in our care, will receive a follow up call from a Marie Curie volunteer several weeks following the death of their loved one. You are not obliged to take this phone call and if you would like to opt out please let the staff in the Bereavement & Medical Examiner Office know on 01823 343753. A privacy notice about how personal details are stored and used is on page 19 of this booklet.
If you feel you would like to talk to someone sooner, you can self-refer to Marie Curie by telephoning 0800 304 7412. They are available Monday – Saturday 9am until 5pm.
Care After Resuscitation Event Support (CARES)
If you have been involved with the resuscitation of your loved one at home prior to their admission to hospital and you wish to discuss those events further, please contact resusteam@Somersetft.nhs.uk. Alongside a team of specially trained facilitators, our Resus team are able to provide an opportunity to debrief on the events experienced and offer support in the weeks and months following the event.
This is not bereavement counselling; however it does aim to help you process and understand the traumatic events of the resuscitation process.
