PENSION PILLARS

PENSIONS AND BENEFITS Standard retirement age in Switzerland is still different for men and women, with women being able to claim full pensions at 64 and men at 65. Retirement planning is based on three levels (called pillars), two of which are compulsory. Pillar 1 or OASI: every adult living in Switzerland has to contribute to this government pension scheme, with contributions based on income. At retirement age you can claim a pension based on your contributions, but never more than the highest possible pension (currently 2,370Fr per month). Pillar 2: or occupational pension funds. If you are employed with an annual salary over 21,330Fr, you have to join your employer’s pension fund. Mandatory contributions are based on the portion of your salary between 24,885 and 85,320Fr, and are paid by you and your employer. You can make voluntary contributions if your salary exceeds this level. Pension funds must pay MRXIVIWX SR QERHEXSV] FIRI½XW GYVVIRX QMRMQYQ TIV ]IEV Pillar 3: or voluntary private retirement savings. Pillar 3a savings can be invested in retirement accounts, retirement funds or life insurance. You can compare pillar 3a accounts and retirement funds on moneyland.ch and other comparison sites. The term pillar 3b denotes non-tax-privileged retirement savings. There are no legal limitations on how much you can save or when assets can be cashed out.

“Switzerland is often too perfect to be true, as Clare O’Dea observes in this entertaining book on how the country ticks.” Ralph Atkins, Financial Times In this new, updated edition of her bestselling book, cross-cultural journalist Clare O’Dea goes in search of the truth behind the clichés that clothe modern Switzerland. Her examination of the unique nation she calls home reveals a complex and dynamic land, whose citizens are often poorly served by the assumptions we make about them. SWISSTORY The real history of Switzerland for kids from 9 to 99 Finally, the real history of Switzerland for clever kids and clever kids-at-heart: dukes slaughtered by filthy peasants, innocent “witches” hung up by their necks, buried gold, female mountaineers and, of course, all those murderous cows. Not the fake history of Heidi and William Tell, but Swisstory— from ancient mountain people right up to women’s right to vote. Hilariously illustrated by bestselling Swiss artist Michael Meister (The Monster Book of Switzerland), Swisstory is outrageous, fascinating, gruesome—and completely true. For children from 9 to 99.
