Must Know - How to control the side effects of hair transplant? Thinking of getting a hair transplant? Wondering whether anything could go wrong with hair transplant treatment? Like any other treatment, there are hair transplant side effects.

Hair Shedding. This is quite common after the procedure. The transplanted roots remain and the shaft falls. This process known as shedding takes about 2-3 weeks. This is a common side effect and lasts for only a few days. A spray is given to apply on the scalp. After the first week, the scalp must be washed gently with a mild shampoo. Infection. Post surgical infections are prevented by giving post operative antibiotics. Usually there are no serious infections of the scalp. Swelling. Areas around the forehead and eyes may swell temporarily. It lasts for a few eyes. This is commonly seen. Keeping head elevated and cold compress reduces the swelling quickly. Scarring. The wounds after transplant heal leaving minor scars. These scars are very small and remain hidden. Numbness. This is present in most cases in the donor area and lasts for about 18 weeks. Cysts. Small cluster of cysts can erupt and rarely it is seen in aggravated form. They disappear in a few weeks. Hiccups. This is rarely seen and resolves in a few weeks.

Most side effects resolve with time. Swelling of the face can be minimised with head elevation, cold compress, anti inflammatory drugs, steroids.
