In 1872, it was approved to officially incorporate Wauconda into its own village. Wauconda is served by School District 118, which includes elementary and middle schools, and also a high school. Bangs Lake is a natural glacial lake that is managed by Wauconda. It is considered a popular destination for recreation, and the Wauconda Park District maintains the beaches and facilities around the lake.
