to reaching the summit $27 Million to complete our campaign. We need your support. Berkshire School has raised $173 million since 2008 in an unprecedented $200-million capital campaign to preserve and advance our standing as one of the nation’s finest secondary schools. With your help, we will reach the summit by June 2015. Hail Berkshire Campaign Objectives: For our Faculty: Recruit and retain a talented and diverse faculty through the Twiggs Myers Fund in remembrance of C. Twiggs Myers Hon. ’57, Berkshire’s legendary master. For our Students: Increase the endowment for financial aid to open Berkshire’s doors to the most talented applicants, regardless of economic circumstance. For our Campus: Provide first-rate facilities and programs that support and enhance Berkshire’s commitment to excellence in all endeavors.

Our Goal is Within Reach. “The Hail Berkshire campaign is the largest and most ambitious fundraising effort in the School’s history. Our goal is within reach, thanks to the extraordinary commitment of trustees, alumni, parents and friends like you. Reaching our ultimate goal is an affirmation of that effort and will require unprecedented generosity and support from the entire Berkshire community. We have raised $173 million in cash and pledges to date due to this remarkable generosity that has transformed the campus with state-of-the-art facilities, invigorated our academic and co-curricular programs, and increased the School’s endowment to over $120 million.” – Peter Kellogg ’61, P’85, ’87, GP’16, Campaign Chair

Goal

Recruit and retain a talented and diverse faculty through the Twiggs Myers Fund in remembrance of C. Twiggs Myers Hon. ’57, Berkshire’s legendary master. “I very much took to the idea of a brush-clearing English department chair and I still do…one immediately caught the spirit of a place where everyone does a little of everything.” – Twiggs Myers Berkshire’s commitment to excellence begins with its people, and they have always been the School’s greatest resource. The Twiggs Myers Fund was created in honor and memory of the late School Master, C. Twiggs Myers Hon. ’57, whose loyal stewardship of the School’s mission and values defined his legendary 61-year legacy at Berkshire. C. Twiggs Myers Hon. ’57 The Twiggs Myers Fund initiatives are: • T o endow six faculty chairs that recognize select faculty for their teaching excellence, leadership, and contributions to the community, and allow the School to attract and retain the most talented and dedicated faculty to lead our students. • T o attract and retain faculty and staff who represent a variety of ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. This diversity inspires new perspectives, understanding, and the exchange of ideas that profoundly impact how our community learns, lives, and works together. Berkshire remains committed to providing role models to better prepare our graduates for the complexities of an increasingly diverse and challenging world. • T o endow our professional development programs which allow faculty to pursue graduate study, to develop new teaching and curricular practices, to collaborate with other schools, colleges and universities from around the world, and to explore emerging research and academic technologies, while enhancing the educational experience for all our students.

Goal

Increase the endowment for financial aid to open Berkshire’s doors to the most talented applicants, regardless of economic circumstance. Berkshire’s financial aid program ensures that talented students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have the opportunity to study and thrive under the Mountain. The School is committed to recruiting a student body that reflects a diversity of experience and perspective.

Financial Aid Goal:

$15 million STILL NEEDED:

$7 MILLION

Goal

With less than 10% of our annual financial aid currently endowed, Berkshire’s immediate challenge, relative to our peer and competitor schools, is to increase the endowment for this essential institutional commitment.

Provide first-rate facilities and programs that support and enhance Berkshire’s commitment to excellence in all endeavors. Berkshire has a responsibility to provide the finest facilities and programs that enhance our students’ learning and living experience under the Mountain. Campus restoration also plays an important role in attracting both prospective students and faculty. Our facilities provide quality academic, artistic, athletic, and residential environments for the entire community. Our programs are the core of the Berkshire experience, defining the opportunities available for our students. Berkshire is in the final phase of completing or planning the below capital projects and raising capital endowment to sustain both buildings and programs over time. GOAL Still Needed

Academics

to our progress

2008-2013

Berkshire Hall Built in 1930, Berkshire Hall remains the iconic center of campus. In 2008, funds from the capital campaign completely restored this building to meet the needs of a 21st-century education. Today, the building’s classrooms blend traditional teaching spaces with advanced academic technologies, allowing students to experience Berkshire’s proud history and its exciting future.

“Restoring Berkshire Hall filled me with such pride as an alumna and as a member of our faculty. My students today enter our classroom with that same pride and love for Berkshire. This inspires me and my teaching.” – Bebe Clark Bullock ’86, P’14, ’17, English faculty

Bellas/Dixon Math and Science Center LEED GOLD CERTIFIED

Bellas/Dixon, completed in 2012, sits on the footprint of Memorial Hall and represents Berkshire’s bold commitment to excellence and innovation in math and science education. The building’s LEED Gold certification reflects the School’s long-standing commitment to sustainability. Spaces include six math classrooms, eight science classroom labs, the Crawford Family Lecture Hall, department offices, the Sabin Center for Math and Science Exploration, and a fabrication lab to support Berkshire’s commitment to STEAM education.

“The Bellas/Dixon Math and Science Center has enriched the academic experience at Berkshire, providing a state-of-the-art environment to conduct a wide range of graduate-level research studies proposed by our students.” – Dr. April Burch, Advanced Math/Science Research Director

Arts

Allen House and Theater

Music Center Our new Music Center opened in the fall of 2010 in the Rovensky Student Center. This space underscores Berkshire’s commitment to music and features classrooms for our singing and instrumental groups as well as individual practice rooms and a recording studio open to students throughout the day and evening.

Allen Theater was completely restored during the summer of 2011. The space serves as a theater and performance space and a venue for visiting speakers and all-school assemblies. Renovations include increased seating for nearly 500; a new lobby and expanded support spaces for the theater program; and an updated studio for Berkshire’s radio station, WBSL 91.7 FM. The second floor of Allen features expanded classrooms and offices for the Barbara Kenefick Center for Learning. The third and fourth floors house renovated student dorm rooms and four faculty apartments.

“ It was truly a privilege to spend three years working and performing in the renovated Allen Theater. It made me want to push myself and give performances that were worthy of the stage I was on.” – Rebecca Rovezzi ’14

Fine Arts Center In the fall of 2013, the new Fine Arts Center opened, bringing all of the visual arts programs under one roof, and making Berkshire Hall a true center for the humanities. This space provides for studio art, ceramics, digital art, digital photography, and digital music classrooms; a digital printing lab; a sculpture studio; a department office; and a bright and modern new gallery to exhibit student and visiting artists’ work.

Athletics

Jackman L. Stewart Athletic Center Built in 2009, the “Jack,” named for beloved coach Jack Stewart, is a premier hockey venue. It features two rinks, which allow our boys’ and girls’ teams equal practice time, preserving evening hours for academics. It also houses locker rooms for all fall and spring teams, an athletic training facility, and a state-of-the-art fitness center that serves the entire community.

“The Jack has become home to our Bears fall, winter, and spring, and one of the reasons more student-athletes choose Berkshire. The students take great pride in having a world-class facility that provides them with the tools they need to reach their full potential.” – Dan Driscoll, Director of Athletics
