Main entrance
Roof Detail
The kiosk is built in the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It is a pavilion serving a family house. On the first floor, there is a hammock area, a sun bathing terrace, a kitchenette and a bathroom. On the beach level, it has room for storing two sailboats and other sports equipment. The palm tree leaves roof is designed and weaved in partnership with a member of the «Kogui» tribe. It is a traditional way of building in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The process of building brings practical knowledge to design. Team: Diego Bermúdez, Gonzálo Castellanos, Inés Obregón. Role: Project manager, construction administration.

Circasia is a town located in the heart of the Unesco coffee cultural landscape, in Colombia. Following the spanish grid colonization model, the “Antioqueños” founded Circasia in 1882 . That means the city ‘s foundation started with a square with a church, two main royal roads (Cardus and Decumanum) communicating with the country and the institutions surrounding this plaza. Housing would be built following the 80m x 80m grid system. When that grid encountered a creek, dependind on its deepness, inhabitants would build over it or around it turning their back to the water source. It was perceived as the dump. Today, we understand the importance of protecting water and integrating the city with its magnificent surrounding environment. This project is about changing the relationship we have with water. It involves deep thinking on how the existing culture can adapt to the existing of creeks.

La Clave is a transformative development that will celebrate healthy urban living, revitalize the extension of Downtown Nashville, and reconnect the city’s disjointed physical and social fabric. Our project will maximize the potential of its proximity to the economic and civic centers of Downtown Nashville, and contribute to strengthening city’s economic livelihood and social integration in the age of globalization. With the vibrant commercial and social activities generated by the mixed-use, mixedincome and multi-modal development, La Clave will spawn new nodes of attraction for Nashville, generate employment opportunities across all educational levels and sectors, and foster healthy lifestyle that celebrates social integration and cultural diversity. Walking is a platform for the unexpected to happen, social encounters, personal interactions. It increases safety and the sense of community, promotes a healthier way living to fight the obesity issues in the area, allows children to make it to school without their parents and incentivizes the use of public existing sect transit. The street is closed one day for a block party and the intervention starts happening with a simple move. Bike racks areschool brought in to close the street, a new cycle lane is painted and vegetation is brought in… if you take the cars away you have to provide something back. If successful, the system grounds itself and trees can get planted on the street. An urban node is placed and opened to the public to bring attention and open opportunities for new businesses and social programs.

La Mojana
Flooded area in La Mojana
In the summer, La Mojana region has thousands of marshes that merge into an everglade in the rainy season. Certain zones of this territory are at higher elevation and thus protected from flooding. As the dominant demographic, local peasants have the lowest income in the country, large families, limited education and unstable employment. These conditions in combination with traditional banking credit inaccessibility prevent them from participating in the market economy. The only tool they have to survive is their hands. Every move I propose is based on the principle that people can use their hands in a productive capacity.. Thesis Project Professors: Mauricio Pinilla, Enrique Ramirez, Fernando de la Carrera. Place: La Mojana, Colombia. Prizes: 1st in VISS national competition. (Accronym for ÂŤsustainable social housingÂť) Publications: El Espectador and El Tiempo newspapers, Colombian Green Building Council magazine, Architecture blogs. 10
Economic Viability
A lumber manufacturer loans construction material to the local residents and through cooperatives and training centers, the community grows finer quality timber in the city and pays the loan back in 20 years. The lumber producer obtains tax reduction benefits and finer quality timber as payment. The government urbanizes the land, acquired through a social housing subsidy, and builds basic infrastructure. The city obtains new tax payers, development opportunities, economic generators and education for future generations, preserving cultural and ecological assets. The local residents, through cooperatives, run, maintain and harvest the timber crops. Once they pay the lumber loan the remaining crop becomes their own business. They build their houses with the loaned timber using available technical support. Starting with the proposed modules, the houses will adapt to independent needs. As the houses grow, the modules evolve and the city wins in diversity. 11

General Diagram
The city of Geneva, following examples in NYC and Montreal, asked us to do a feasability study for rooftop greenhouses. Production, packaging, consumption, education and exhibition spaces where designed in order to make this project profitable. The challenges faced were on how to take advantage of the storm water for irrigation systems and how to integrate the project to an existing structure in order to have the lightest possible construction and accessibility.

We participated on this competition for a new Agro-Park in Geneva as a research project. We proposed a system where 4 Ha of professionally managed agricultural land were surrounded by public and ecological uses. Sports fields, running tracks, a didacting kitchen and restaurant, educational vegetable gardens and a farmer’s market intermingled with the agriculture contributing to the protection of a new ecological corridor planned between the Rhone and Ar rivers. The public park, built onStructure top of a highway, canPerméabilité expand or shrink according to the needs giving more space for food production. We proposed a funding strategy for the park. 1,5 Million Euros where brought in by taking construction debris to shape the new topography protecting the park from the noisy Confignon highway loop. espace public filtre de fruitiers cheminements

Public space Concept
General Plan
The principal issue of this studio project, was to base the design on form rather than function. The site, a wetland, should stay as natural as possible. The project: a building and its public space both using the forms of the countryside and the city to emphasize the aspect of the wetland inserted in a city. The form of crops and forests outside Bogota shaped the urban landscape and the building was shaped by the meandering form of the river.

This park was designed for the people of ÂŤNueva EsperanzaÂť (New Hope) neigborhood in the municipality of Sachica, Colombia. The housing project was built five years before but streets or public space were never built. The project is a pro bono initiative that seeks financial aid from private corporations interested in building a better country. Design is based on community meetings and workshops where people established the program of what would be done. A playground and a place to promote cultural exchange. The surrounding street network also needed to be redesigned in order to make this park accesible. The project is today under construction. Team: Cebra Paisajismo. Place: Sachica, Colombia

ecosocial NETWORK
This Studio was about creating a network comprising all the components needed to be sustainable. Given 10m x 10m parcels to design the different components that would make this tissue a sufficient set. Water harvest, energy generator, residential module, productive module and public space components. The productive module, activity was a nursery that supplied and sold plants for the tissue and its environment.

Private ideas competition to design a Kindergarten for the French School in Bogotá. Project selected. One of the principal issues was the enormous parking underneath the building and the accesibility for seventeen buses and 400 children aged 3 to 9 to a small parcel in a dense environment. The project is divided into three blocks each with its garden. for three groups of children of the same age. Team: Ramón Bermúdez, Claudia Olalla, Diego Bermúdez Place: Bogotá, Colombia 20

Seeing, portraying and understanding architecture landmarks is a part of the architect’s learning process. Drawing is linked to the understanding of form and space. It is also one way to describe ones thoughts and ideas. A bull, a mouth, a building are everyday objects that can teach something about proportion, symmetry and geometry.

PIN HOLE
Nowadays, point and shoot cameras are somehow erasing the history of photography. A pin hole camera is an apparatus that allows to understand how photography works. To look through this machine shows unexpected situations and reveals lights and reflections that are not seen with bare eyes. boundaries
The work of the architect depends on people’s needs. Sometimes, people live in unhealthy, dangerous and unappealing environments. Nobody would pay attention to their needs for it is difficult to access these places. Urban drifts seem then necessary to escape from daily life and get into a parallel world.. Architect’s eye can transform issues into oportunities. Large latinamerican cities are often dangerous and it is somehow difficult to portrait places where design interventions are needed. Where: Bogotá, Colombia Role: Photographer Media: disposable camera Exhibition: Three pictures shown at Universidad de los Andes.
